DH tried to surprise me with a Paperwhite for Christmas, but it got lost or stolen before delivery, so Amazon has refunded us and now I get to pick my own Paperwhite. So, 8gb or 32gb? Generally I think more storage is always better, but e-books take up such little space... I think the primary benefit of 32gb would be for audiobooks, since the Paperwhite now has Audible? I have a few things on Audible but generally much prefer reading over listening to books. I'm more likely to listen to Audible on my iphone, I think. Is 8gb enough or will I regret it?

ETA: Also, can I use our Fire charging cable rather than buy the Paperwhite charging cord for $20?

TIA!

I’m going with the 8gb even though I always buy the most memory available for my phones. I think it’s fine for the kindle as long as you’re not planning on storing a whole bunch of audiobooks. I’m not sure what kind of cable the fire uses, but I have charging cables that came with my kid’s wireless headphones or with my Bluetooth phone headset, and they all work on the kindle. It’s a standard charging port, not unique to the kindle. I never bought a charging cord with my original kindle, though I do think it came with a cord, just not a plug.

I only get books on loan from the library so my storage needs are very minimal.
The charger is compatible with traditional ones so you probably already own one that will work.

My kindle paper white is 4 years old. I don’t do audiobooks and I can’t recall running out of space ever. I couldn’t tell you what size I have.

I think choosing the memory size is new. I honestly don't remember that on any of the kindles I've chosen or looked at. I may be mis-remembering, but I thought the choices were with "special offers" or without.

I did a bit of researching out of curiosity. This newest version of the Kindle has audio capability (via bluetooth). So, if you plan on having a LOT of audio books, get the bigger one, but you'd have to be a serious audio book hoarder to need it. The smaller 8gb version can hold approximately 30-40 audiobooks, and the 32 gig can hold at least 150 audiobooks.

yes to both of these. If I have an audio book I always check those out from the library and just use the overdrive app for them on my phone.
