What birks are you getting this year?

I just ordered the tan big buckle Madrids and they aren’t comfortable for me at all! This has never happened. They hurt across the band.

I love the new metallics.

I love the metallic ones, but I am not sure I want a pair of metallic Arizona’s; I wish they would do the Granada style in metallic.

If I get another pair this year I will probably just get another pair of Arizona EVA, and I like this color:
https://www.birkenstock.com/us/arizona-eva/arizona-eva-eva-0-eva-u.html?dwvar_arizona-eva-eva-0-eva-u_color=10811

I wore my silver EVA ones all last summer, and no blisters or foot pain (plantar fasciitis) so that was a huge bonus for me. I have a tendency to get blisters with the regular sandals.

Those are cute! I like them better than the small buckle Madrids. Do you think they will break in at all?

Last spring I bought the anthracite metallic Arizona and I love them! I generally can't wear flip flops, as it gives me arch pain, so I always need a back strap. But I found I can tighten down the Arizona enough so they don't flop at all and are pretty comfy.

Have you tried Hoka One or Oofos flip flops? I have a myriad of foot issues but I can wear these for a bit (not a long dog walk or anything!).

I don't know if they are going to break in at all. I may play with the buckle a bit. The problem is that I wore them last week on vacation. They look great with dresses!

Also love the white Arizonas, but I don't think I need another pair.

Good to know about the big buckle Arizonas - I was considering a pair. Last year I LOVED my copper metallic arizonas. I ordered a pair of anthracite for this year as well as some white arizonas with big blue eyes on them.

Anthracite is so pretty.

I love the looks of the big buckle ones, but also heard that they aren't comfortable. I bought a pair of pink rubber ones for the pool, and like them a lot!

It's been a couple of years since I bought my last pair (antique white Mayari) and I'm torn between another pair of Mayaris (in this gorgeous oiled blue leather! (https://www.birkenstock.com/us/mayari-oiled-leather/mayari-core-oiledleather-0-eva-w.html?dwvar_mayari-core-oiledleather-0-eva-w_color=75)) or trying the new Yao style (https://www.birkenstock.com/us/styles/yao/) (maybe in pink? or mocha?). I'd like to see the Yao style IRL before committing!

If I get any new Birks, I think I would get another pair of Madrids. I have a black patent pair and a hot pink pair and I use them so much. I would consider trying the big buckle, but based on this thread, I'll make sure I buy somewhere that has free return shipping.

ETA: I love my Mayoris--bought those last year. I probably don't need to buy another pair since I have quite a few that are all in good shape.

Bought a pair of Gizehs last year. I'm getting the leather Chaco Wayfarers this year I think!

BTW this is a fun Birkenstock blog (http://www.ilovebirkenstocks.com/) to follow in case you don't know it already.

I was excited when I saw the title of this thread ... but it’s apparently only about Birk sandals [emoji1]. For shoes, I’ve worn nothing but Birks for decades but sadly I haven’t found any recent ones that measure up. I’ve had tie shoes, Mary Janes, slipons, tennis shoes, etc., that had that good Birk footbed and supportive uppers (I.e., leather that’s not super soft).

My only recent purchase was the Arran style, but they’ve been a great disappointment. The canvas uppers are floppier than old-time Keds, and the footbed doesn’t seem to have anything like the arch etc support I’m used to.

Before I get banished to the BP, any suggestions re: available styles that would be worth a look? Or (gasp!) any other brands that offer similar footbed/arch support?

I love the Yao in white! My friend was wearing them at school pick up today.

Thanks for the blog.

Which Birks shoes do you like, NCGrandma? I get to wear sandals so infrequently where I live but would love reccs for closed shoe Birks that offer the same support!

Here are a few of my favorites — they’re all Birkenstock Footprints, which used to be Birk's shoe line but that is being phased out so they’re now all just called Birks. (Yeah, some of these are still listed on Amazon, but generally in really small/narrow sizes — sadly I wear size 42, regular width):

https://www.amazon.com/Footprints-Birkenstock-Padua-Lace-Shoe/dp/B001HSSRLS/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=Birkenstock%2BPadua&qid=1554334717&s=apparel&sr=1-1-fkmrnull&th=1 — the suede on the ones I have looks less scruffy!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F68KIP8/ref=twister_B07C475XYL?th=1 — I’ve had these in several colors, in suede and smooth leather.

https://www.birkenstockexpress.com/Footprints/Chesterfield.cfm/prod5.AB929 — these are great, super comfy, many good colors, but note the dreaded tag "discontinued"

Have you checked out Danskos? If I didn’t deal with ice and snow, I would wear Dansko ankle boots all winter.

The last time I looked at Danskos (years ago), the ONLY style they made was their traditional clog, which weren’t flat enough for me. I just looked again, and they’ve clearly branched out, including some tennis shoes that look very interesting. Thanks for the suggestion!

Those were the ones I was thinking about for you. I wear birk sandals on weekends and dansko sandals or flats to work.

I have several Danskos and they have destroyed my ankles. I'm an 8.5 and my feet slide so much in their boots and sandals that it has led cumulative wear on my ankles. I once full on twisted my ankle while traveling in London in my beloved Dansko boots just because of foot sliding in shoe! And I was fitted for them. I have vowed no more Danskos ever again. Ahnu sandals fit me best but Teva has now bought them over so not sure what will happen to the brand.

If you like the Birkenstocks you have, why buy a new pair? My husband has worn the same pair since he was a teenager, just getting the straps and the footpad replaced as necessary. IT's one reason I recently got Birkenstocks of my own, because they support them so well.

I did this last spring because they no longer made the Birkenstock Granada in the metallic blue that I have. It costs about $85 and I feel like I got a whole new shoe.

My dad has had his Arizona’s resoled at least twice in the 20 years or so he has had them.

I gave away my black suede Arizona’s about 8-10 years ago when Birkenstock’s were no longer cool, but I very easily could’ve had them resoled had I kept them....they were 15 years old or so when I gave them away.

I wear birks for style and comfort (all about that ugly shoe trend!!), so I get a couple of pairs every year, sometimes more. I don't really think of them quite as utilitarian as you do!

Do you keep all those pairs or donate? Just curious! That's a lot of birks!

I’m guessing she keeps them all.

Kindra, which styles do you recommend for a newbie? I want to get my first pair but I’m not sure which ones to get. DD (13) has basic black Arizonas. But I want something more exciting, either a more feminine style or a more “fancy” material. I like the look of the miyari ones, but I found the thing between the toes to be irritating, mostly in the non-leather ones.

Look at Yao in white (rose gold buckle) or rose gold. No center toe thing. Super feminine.

White or tan suede Arizonas are worn by all the bloggers right now. I love them both and they are trendy (Joanna Gaines has been wearing tan suede every day).

You can’t go wrong with any Metallics.

I love my classic silver gizeh but those might bother you.

Take a look at anthro or free people to get ideas.

To those asking - I can’t wear cute flip flops or most (all!) other sandals. My various birks get a ton of wear.

I recently got Oofos after reading about them here and now I don't want to wear anything else. I have wide feet and rheumatoid arthritis in addition to extremely high arches. They are like walking on a dream. They don't lend themselves to my line of work (helping people downsize) or I'd be wearing them everyday.

Just wanted to update that I tried the metallic copper Yao and they definitely run narrow and they have a weird non suede footbed so even if they fit width wise I don’t know if I would’ve kept them because I didn’t care for the insole.
