It's FINALLY getting sort of warm here in New England...which is great, but every year I struggle with what to wear to work around this time!

Winter I'm usually in pencil skirt, thin wool sweater/turtleneck, tights, knit or wool blazer, and flat or small wedge boots/booties. I have a gazillion of these basics and I can mix and match. I have some more "business casual" days where I'm just in my office and I can get away with a tunic and leggings. I run cold by nature.

But summer comes and argh. That doesn't work anymore. I don't like going bare legged at work, so all of the sudden skirts/dresses are out. I'm pear shaped/short legged and I feel frumpy and short in pants and flats, but I walk too much to wear heels (I can do it for a day or two, but then my feet start cramping and I don't think it's really good for my feet in the long run). I can't wear open toed shoes and I need something with a strap cause my feet are narrow. I’m really most comfortable in shoes with socks/tights, but I don't think boots are appropriate in May!

I feel like if I could get the footwear sorted I could put together a capsule of narrow ankle pants, flowy tops, and wear my same blazers. But I can't for the life of me figure out a summer shoe that is closed toed, has ankle or forefoot strap, super comfortable, and has some height/doesn't make me look super short. Any ideas?

Have you tried Rothy's? They are not heels but the point style is really flattering and elongating on the leg. I have lots of friends who wear them, including short friends and that style seems to just look good on everyone.

Haha, we posted at the same time. I have the point style. I had to go up half a size. I just ordered the flat and the sneaker.

Haha - yes! I had to go up a half size as well; some might even need to go up a whole size in the Point if you have a wide foot. I have 3 pairs of the Point!

I have a pair of the Flats and they are not my favorite (just not as versatile as the Point, definitely a more cutesy look).

I have a pair of the Loafers and LOVE THEM and I want another pair - they are great for business casual too!

And I have not tried the Sneaker yet :)

Yes to this! I have two pairs of points, and love them! I just ordered a pair of loafers as well. I have large wide feet and the points fit fine....I was really surprised. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190426/58e898c27b962508686eabb8fe8a5345.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190426/bd1f4e7faed9d27acddcc4624feccddf.jpg

I wear a 9.5 wide or 10 wide in regular shoes and have a 10.5 in points, and ordered the loafers in a 10.
I thought about the sneakers, but reports are they run narrow. I also ordered a pair of flats off a bst group on Facebook and they are a grey/black in a 10 so I hope I like them, but if I don’t I will re sell them on that site.

I haven’t tried Rothys. I have wanted to but I think they would be too flat for me. Historically I don’t do well with ballet flats (don’t stay on my heel). The “loader” style may work but then I’m back to looking stumpy.

Phillymom, you wear booties with pants in the summer? I think maybe I’m looking for a “shootie” or something.

They aren't ballet flats really. My feet are very difficult. I am pleasantly surprised with how well they fit. I get lots of compliments too. My foot is fussy. At times I wear booties in the summer with tapered work pants particularly on a slightly colder day. With the Rothy's now, they may take the place.

I love my Rothy’s! I brought a pair to Savannah and wore them 10-12 miles/day through the historic district. They were awesome and more comfortable than the day I wore my sneakers!!

I’m short with narrow feet. I love Toms wedge sandals. I have a closet full of shoes but reach for my Toms 90% of the time. I also find Cole Haan wedges to be comfortable and they tend to be dressier.

Toms is a good idea! I’ve always done so well with the original toms shoes. Can walk in those for miles and miles without issues. Their wedge booties are short so maybe I could get away with them even in the summer though I think they are a little casual for patient days.

Will think about the rothys..I’ve heard so many good reviews but I’ve just never found a shoe without a vamp or an ankle strap that stayed on my foot it’s difficult to imagine that changing!

I missed the closed toes. Would something like this work? They come in narrow.

I did order a pair of pointy rothys in big cat though! It doesn’t take much to convince me on shoes :). We will see!

Skechers has a knockoff Rothy. DSW carries them if you want to try on in store. I’ve never been able to wear a non-slingback flat comfortably before, but they actually stay on my feet!

I have these in a few different styles. They have enough of a wedge that you won't look stumpy and they are super comfy but look dressy on, the pics online are deceiving. I get compliments all the time (I also work in healthcare and must have closed toe shoes).

My only complaint is I usually have to add an insole after awhile as I wear barefeet and it takes a toll on the liner/sole, but that's a 3.00 fix.

I wear them with cropped pants/regular length pants.

I am 4'11" and could never wear any of the flats linked above, this wedge is about the lowest heel I ever wear.

I’m 5’1” and wear suits or dresses for work. I have narrow feet and picky arches. I swear by these Danskos. They are worth every penny. I have to size down in Dansko. I also have the similar style that doesn’t have the strap but they are loose in the heel and I had to add one of those sticky heel pads to help keep from walking out of them. The wedge isn’t high and they are very supportive. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NBPI1W6/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_10?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I have several friends with Rothys and they have all said their feet get super sweaty because well of course they are plastic shoes. That’s kept me from trying them.

I do also wear ballet flats and have luck with these: https://www.amazon.com/Naturalizer-Womens-Flexy-Ballet-Flat/dp/B01MR7YMF6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=naturalizer+flat&qid=1556318155&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

Yes. There are a few different styles. The ballet, a pointy toe, and a loafer-ish flat.

i would really try Rothy's. i wear a 9.5 and absolutely HATE ballet flats of any shape or form as they are horible for my feet and give me blisters and callouses (i'd rather wear high heels/stillettos and at least look really good - i'm in pain either way!). but Rothy's somehow really work for me. they are different from most flats.

i like how you can wash them.

i have four pair of the points and use them for work a lot. i like how compact they are so i can keep them in a work bag, if i'm wearing heels i can wear them to/from walking in parking lots.

Came to recommend the Dansko's wendibird linked to above, on a whim I bought them in red last year and love them, I was glad to see they expanded the colors this year.

Dansko? There are a few mary jane styles that I wear with cropped ankle pants.

Sam
Malin
Loralie
Roxanne
Pearlina (nude maryjanes have been all over the runway and these are great in nude!)

For flats, Dansko Lisanne, get the patent capped toe. That look was seen on the runway this spring. Super supportive and great for walking.

I’m curious about Rothys. clearly I have a problem with shoe collecting. those FB ads were getting to me, but these posts are putting me over the edge lol
I get excited when I find shoes that fit my wide feet! They were double wide for years since my first pregnancy, and I had such limited choices that shoe shopping was depressing, but often now I can fit into regular wides, which gives me better choices. Normally flats don’t work well for me - my feet keep coming out as I walk and the shoes scrape the back of my foot. Plus I would need to add a superfeet insert lol
Annie625, your (wide) feet look good in those. Normally my feet look really “spread out” in flats. Hmmm..

Ok, guys, so I got the Rothys (point in "big cat" which is a leopard print, totally my thing). They are super cute, but not too out there that they attract too much attention, KWIM? I wore them the first day and my one heel was a little sore, not too abnormal for me with a new pair of shoes, I figured they would break in.

So I wore them on Thursday, a really busy day where I walked around a ton, and OMG, I ended up with holes all over my toes and both heels :( I have 4 bandaids on my feet now just to tolerate socks and sneakers. That material I think is just too rough for me, my feet are really soft and thin skinned and also kind of sweaty. I'm so bummed. Especially since I just basically wasted $145 :(

I'm considering these Paul Green ones..I have a pair of flats from that brand that are very good and have lasted even though I've worn them a ton. But oh, that price!

Your heel hurts because the shoes didn’t have enough support; they are way too bendy. The material is a separate issue.

Everyone loves PAUL Green but they don’t work for me.

Surely they were defective, to break after two days? It’s worth asking.

You mean holes in your feet and not the shoes, right? So - in my experience, Rothys need to fit not too snug so it's possible you need the next size up. My feet are also sweaty and if I do a ton of walking, I will need a bandaid on my heels. It's also possible that Rothys just don't work for you :(

Yes, holes in my feet..I'd walk right out of the next size up, cause they are slipping as it is. I think they are just not working, that fabric is very rough IMO, and will never work with my tender feet.
