View Full Version : What products have you bought because of a FB ad?

Just curious. I see products advertised on FB all of the time, and I am tempted to buy stuff. I bought two "Rip Skirts" this summer, and like them (I bought one from Amazon one directly from the company). They're nice and lightweight. I've seen people recommending Betaband (sp?) pants, I was always curious if they were a good buy whenever their ads popped up on FB. Since people here have tried them IRL I may buy some. Oh, and I bought Rothys which I like, but haven't bought any Allbirds which are constantly on my FB feed. I've learned my lesson not to buy those bras that are always advertised since a poster here gets so much spam from them!

None from FB other than seeing a dress or pair of shoes from a store I already frequent. However, I listen to podcasts all the time and bought a ruggable after hearing a million ads for it.

I'm curious too. Those FB ads make them look amazing. But they seem a little overpriced.

Rothys, Allbirds, Cosabella, and Ruggable. I have been really happy with all of them :)

I really want to try the Thrive mascara...I don't think the formula will be any better than what I'm already using which is great (L’Oréal Double Extend, but WITHOUT the primer), but the mascara brush alone looks worth it!

How is the ruggable? I almost bought one (from a facebook ad : ) )

It is great for my purpose, which was a runner and I wish they had a runner size that would work in my bathroom, but I am not getting one for the living room or office where kids sometimes sit on the floor. It is very thin and not at all cozy feeling like a typical rug, even a typical low pile one. I have wondered if the larger sizes would work with a regular rug pad to help the cushion feel. It is, however, very well made, pretty, washable. The deebot vacuum works fine on it.

They're great if you want something washable that looks stylish (assuming you can find a color/pattern you like). They are NOT cozy - they are thin and you can almost feel the velcro-ish pad underfoot. But they do look nice and washability is a really great perk if you have kids and pets (I've had to throw away a rug after a particularly bad pet accident). I suppose you could put them on top of a thicker rug pad but I think that would look funny because then the edges of the ruggable washable part of the rug wouldn't be laying flat on the floor. We have one runner in our laundry room which also handles all traffic to the garage. It has held up really really well and I haven't had to wash it yet but trust it'll come out fine. I would absolutely consider for a living area or office or bedroom or front entry where you don't necessarily need a plush rug but just want it to look nice and help capture dirt/debris tracked into the house and be able to wash it when needed.

My ThirdLove purchase experience pretty much soured me on buying any product primarily advertised on Facebook. It was bad when the straps of one of the two bras were too short. Then they "moderated" (suppressed) my review about the straps. And the fit specialist was unable/unwilling to provide information about strap length of other styles so I could choose a replacement. Both the bra I initially liked and the replacement for the bad fit have poor support and one has the worst strap slip issue of any bra I've ever owned. Then months later, the Facebook blogger spam avalanche started.
ThirdLove managed to escalate a mediocre purchase into making me feel first scammed then harrassed.

I will not touch them with a ten-foot-pole because of your experience. So, thanks?

That was interesting. It's hard to believe that enough people click on those "Dr. Oz diet pills" sort of ads to generate a profit, but clearly they do.

I first heard of Tieks on FB in 2011 or 2012 but didn’t buy a pair until this past May. I bought directly from the website. I have two pairs now. I love them, but honestly sometimes wish they made half sizes.

I first heard of Rothy’s from FB in 2016 or whenever they came out but I was totally skeptical about them and didn’t think they would work for my feet. I got my first pair for Xmas 2018 and now have four pairs (two flats, and two points). After washing though they are kind is high maintenance especially the points so I don’t think I will be buying anymore points.

Lisa Leonard necklaces, but I think someone else here or my BFF told me about them as well. My dh bought me one for Mother’s Day in 2012 or 2013.

I tried Third Love and Stitch Fix after reading about them here. I really love my Third Love bras. I haven’t had a bad experience with them though. I did first see ads for Third Love, and Stitch Fix on FB.

I saw Trunk Club on Instagram in 2016 or 2017 and tried it then and it was not a good thing. I returned everything I bought and none of it seemed like my style.

There is this waving wand to make beachy waves, it's apparently a piece of crap, all the reviews on their page are fake and when you try to Google the website, nothing comes up. Some searching found the real reviews that were very telling and said stay away. I figure most are junk. It's funny, the ads seem to come in waves.

I haven't bought anything from a Facebook ad. I'm really really immune to that type of marketing. I'm just very skeptical about anything I'd learn about there.

After the Third Love thread, I went on a spree deleting all the crap FB thinks I'm interested in. It is so hilarious to see what they think are actual categories.

I don't know if it is related (because I don't think they change their ways based on anything I click inside their settings). Anyway, my current ads are so..... odd. It's like they are for stuff that seems completely unrelated, and yet, they have the same odd style of writing and weird emoji usage.

Nothing. I just assume it’s junk that they are pushing me to buy. Now if there’s a brand I don’t know about, I’ll google it. But I never buy from a link.

I never do either, I go to the manufacturer's website or other trusted retailer. I assumed the OP meant buying a product based on being introduced to it through FB ads. A while ago I kept getting ads for the Charmin Forever Roll. I thought it was a joke so I googled. It's real. I have no idea why FB targeted me for that, LOL!

I don't think I have ever clicked on a facebook ad until the Sash Bag and even then I think I googled it instead of following the link and then did further review-research and reading. The same thing happened with Force of Nature. I agree that most of the ads are ridiculous and make me want to avoid the brand (outrageous verbiage, poor spelling/grammar, unrealistic claims, emoji use like others said), but both of these ads grabbed my attention and it turned out I really love both the products. So because of those experiences I have noticed more ads and been more open-minded. Sometimes targeted ads can be helpful. I had been googling for awhile looking for a streaming service that carries Hallmark channels at a good price and yesterday on Insta I got an ad for a streaming service with Hallmark for only $6 per month! I had not been able to find it anywhere when googling but I'm very interested in it!

I've never bought from a link. I actually open an "incognito" browser to research products so it's harder to be tracked. There isn't much that I buy without researching! But some of the products are legit, like Rothys, the Rip Skirts which I really like (great summer by the pool wear, and the mini skirt was a great cover up) and Allbirds. Right now the most common ads on my FB page is J. Jill and Boden.

I think I might have gotten the Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions mascara because of FB? I actually love it. And their eyebrow pencil. Rothy's...can't remember if that was here or there? Also love those. If something intrigues me, I'll google it. Most of it is junk, but there are some gems.

Is that a tube style mascara? As in it wraps around the lash and stays put better than traditional mascara. I’ve heard good things about Thrive but I’m sold on tube mascara and wouldn’t want anything else.

I bought Plae shoes, and we absolutely love them and will continue to buy them.

I’ve seen ads for Lo and Sons as well as Rothys. Never tried either but did get a chance to look at a friend’s Lo and Sons bag - it was very feature heavy and functional but it wasn’t soooo nice that I felt I needed to run out and get one. I was interested in trying EShakti for custom dresses and Third Love for bras but held off due to so-so reviews.

EShakti! I'd forgotten all about that one. I used to get those all the time.... (Now I will again, I'm sure.)

So tempted to buy it for dd. She gets huge reactions to any bug bites that I’m tempted to just buy it and see if it works. But I don’t want to waste my money if it’s just a gimmick.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AU9PEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_zQIPDb1P4TNR3

I bought it for DS2 who has been stung by bees 8 times and gets severe local reactions. He hasn't gotten stung again since I bought it but I use it all the time whenever I get a mosquito or other random bite, which I also get bad reactions to. I find it helps A LOT with the itching and you can see the serum being drawn out. I wipe afterwards with alcohol and my itching is greatly reduced. It's oddly satisfying! [emoji23] I've had it for 2 years now. Zero complaints.

I was at a friend's house this weekend and she had the wall hanging with everyone's name on it. It was rustic looking and kind of my style. She said she had bought it through Jane, a company she first saw on Facebook. lol She sent me the link but they don't carry that item anymore. I'm also surprised that Jane hasn't popped up in my feed since Sunday.

All summer long, I was plagued by stupid ads from Shapermint, which makes shapewear. They were annoying in part because they were dishonest. The ads would show women in these super bodycon dresses with huge unnatural-looking spare tires. Then it would cut to a scene of them pulling up a shaper and voila, perfect fit in the dress! *roll eyes* It was just obvious that the women were wearing the shapers in the "before" shots, but didn't have them pulled all the way, so it gave them a very exaggerated muffin top. When a few people would call them out in the comments, the company would mostly ignore them.

I have a failsafe bug bite trick, I get terrible bites and when we travel to Canada the bugs are insane up there!

Run the bite under scalding hot water, like as hot as you can stand, for as long as you can stand, usually 3 seconds is enough. Obviously some bites are in difficult spots, but the ones on ankles, legs, arms are usually the worst and the hot water takes the itchiness out for up to 8 hours.

I had a bunch of random bugs bites on my upper arm last week that wouldn't have been easy to run under water. I used the suction device instead.
