I am generally not a great sleeper, and I don't sleep well on planes or in cars.

I'm a stomach and side sleeper in general, but I guess I am floppy because every time I start to fall asleep, I fall over and wake myself up.

Any products you have used to actually sleep comfortably on a plane? A neck pillow does nothing for me.

I'm following since I'm looking to get one for myself for a long upcoming flight too. My Mom just did some research and picked this one for herself, but I'm waiting for it to arrive before I decide if I want the same or something different. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X4ZMXFW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In the past I've just used a plain rectangular travel sized pillow, but it was only ok, and only helpful if I had a window seat. I did like that I could use it at my destination too.

This is super goofy looking and it doesn't pack that small (although I curve it around the top of my carry-on tote or backpack and it doesn't take up much space, I just have to move it around if I want something from underneath). What I like about it over the usual pillow styles is that it actually works in any seat configuration, keeps me from getting that crazy stiff neck and lets you sleep upright without your head falling forward or sideways. It still doesn't give me a solid sleep on a plane, but nothing does, even lie flat seats. But it is better when stuck in an overnight economy seat than other travel pillows I've tried. And you don't wander through the airport with one of those horseshoe shaped pillows dangling off your bag or around your neck - a pet peeve of mine because i think it looks so ridiculous. (I have had mine awhile and it looks like recent reviews say they have changed something.)

I will say the other thing I got that I love for economy flights is a sling for your feet that lets me curl my feet up with some support - note that I've only tried it in economy plus, not regular economy. Will link that too.

I have this one as well and took it on our long flight to Tokyo recently. I alternated between it and my medium sized Therm-a-Rest compressible pillow (which I also use as a knee pillow or pillow replacement in hotel rooms).

I bought the trtl pillow that MarinKitty linked and used it once on a cross country flight. It was better than a rectangular pillow, and a little better than the U-shaped one. It does make you super warm though, as mine is a fleece material. I will definitely try it again on a long flight.
I have found that when using a U-shaped pillow, I can not put it behind my head, or my head just flops forward. I put it on my shoulder so one leg is below my chin, and the other partly behind my head. Then my head can lean to one side, or to the front partly.
I have wondered about the hammocks. They are so controversial, about whether they affect the person in the seat in front of you. I am also tall, and try to straighten my legs out under the seat. I scrunch down with my butt to the edge of the seat to get more of a recline. I wonder if having my legs up would be comfortable. I also feel like my legs would fall open if they were elevated, taking up space from the other seat or sticking into the aisle.

Following! Those horseshoe shaped pillows are the dumbest ever. A good travel pillow needs to fit FLUSH with the headrest and not push your neck away from it!

Thanks! Will look into those suggestions. I was able to book economy plus for an upcoming red eye.
I'm confused about the foot hammocks.
Has anyone ever tried one like this? I have always been tempted to try to lay down on the tray table, so I wonder how this would work.

I totally agree! That is why I use it sideways, so just a little is behind my head, and I can recline my head to the side and it can fall forward without jarring me awake.

I have never seen one IRL, but I get claustrophobic even trying to sleep with my head on my crossed arms at a table, so don't think it would work well for me. This one seems to have more ventilation, but anyone with shoulder issues would seem to get cramped quickly.
