We're working on a design to finish our basement and are struggling to pick a ceiling. If your basement is finished what type of ceiling do you have? We like the thought of a drywalled ceiling, but are worried about leaks. Our last house we did a drop ceiling which was nice in the leaking aspect but not my favorite look.

Ours is half and half (separate areas of basement). My husband put a drywall ceiling on the part he finished because it looks nicer, but he has had to cut into it and then fix it several times to access various cables and things that we hadn’t though we would need to get to. So make sure you won’t need to get above the ceiling for anything before going that route! On the other hand I don’t think we have ever had to move the drop ceiling tiles for anything...

We have a drywalled ceiling in our current house, and even though it looks nice, it is really a pain. We have put off modificiations because they would require ripping out the ceiling across the length of the house (like putting in a gas line for the stove).
I don't love the look of a drop ceiling, but it's definitely more practical.

Drywall in bathroom for soundproofing but absolutely drop ceiling everywhere else in case of repairs. But, we splurged on these and love the look https://www.armstrongceilings.com/residential/en-us/suspended-ceiling-systems/decorative-suspended-ceiling-tiles/item/1205.html

This is what we did in our old house. Our biggest concern right now is soundproofing because I don't want to listen to kids all night long in the basement. They tend to not go to bed when they have friends over.

Our old house had a drop ceiling in the basement, and I thought it was soooo ugly. And when my boys went crazy with balls, the panels would get dislodged and little bits would fall onto the floor. New house has a finished drywall ceiling. It looks much nicer, but we did have to cut into it last week when we had a frozen pipe and the plumber had to reroute the pipes.

We put in drop and have already had to replace panels to make repairs. I wouldn’t do drywall for that reason.

i just saw a facebook ad for armstrong ceiling panels. those aren’t the ugly old white tiles of the past. looks like there are better options now!

I don’t find the noise to be that bad but I did wonder if you could shove some insulation or something in there (the kind that comes in sheets, not blown in).

We spray painted our basement ceiling black and left everything exposed - have been very happy with it

When we re did our basement 10+ years ago we replaced drop with drywall. We haven't had to rip out much for repairs, but DH is very much a DIYer and has done lots of drywall and fished lots of electrical wire. For us, it definitely made more sense because we gained several inches of height and part of the basement was already under 8' because of weird 80s architecture. We do have a couple small access panels for the outside water spigot shutoffs.
