This is our priciest homeschool year yet that's going to be at least $600 for curriculum alone. I need a great deal on TI-83, TI-83 Plus or TI-84 graphing calculator please! Has anyone had experience buying them refurb or discounted or on ebay? I'm going to need two, of course.

Ugh, I forgot that DD1 is supposed to get one of these for 8th grade, but I forget which model the school likes to use! I do remember the principal saying that they are expensive but the best deals always seem to be at Walmart during back to school sales.

Dh swears by his TI-85 calculator that is 20+ years old, but they no longer make that model. For your DDs a TI-83 should be fine. If you live near a college bookstore could you see if they have used ones.

My son is taking pre-calc and only uses his graphing calculator for midterms and finals because he can't access the internet while taking these exams.

The rest of the time he uses GeoGebra

My friend is a math training specialist and she uses Desmos

We got the staples deal in maybe August of last year, but on these at Target. I'm thinking that the current color model is what most kids these days will have https://www.target.com/p/texas-instruments-84-ce-graphing-calculator-black/-/A-17109657?clkid=4803ed08N802611e9bea342010a246e02&lnm=360518&afid=Slickdeals_LLC&ref=tgt_adv_xasd0002

I have 3 kids now with graphing calculators. Here they were used very little in Algebra I and was told last year a back to school for Algebra I they did not need them till testing in the spring. The teacher was very in favor of the virtual ones.

I got one on nextdoor for 15.00, lots of people have then sitting in their desks. You could try an iso post.

Dd1 didn’t use one at all in algebra 1. I think I used one in the spring. I used it way more in algebra 2.

I would definitely check with the teacher to make sure they need them, for any substitutions/online etc, and then ask around friends who have older kids that might no longer need them.

Thanks guys! I am double checking that they are needed in class. If we only need for homework we can use digital. I also found a bunch in amazon warehouse deals for $40 which is way better.

Good timing - I literally just bought DD’s for calc. At least here, the high end ones aren’t needed even in pre-calc. It also appears that the one the course manual says is approved (TI-Nspire CX) is no longer available. There’s a CXII but if it it’s new this year may be some good deals?

Do you have a Meijer? I'm not sure about last year, but before that, they had great deals in August with a sale, coupon for your next purchase and School Bucks. I paid $70ish for the TI-84 CE.

SO is the TI-84 Plus the standard that most schools want the kids to use? I cannot remember what model they school principal told parents we should be looking for. He just mentioned it at an awards assembly last year and said it was recommended for higher level math kids coming into 8th grade this year.

Yup, that is when we got ours too. It was a very good deal, I cannot remember all of the details, but we did get like a $30 or so coupon back for our next purchase, plus it was on sale. I could not find a better deal than that in our area.

We are supposed to get TI Nspire, but no letters. I can't find it anywhere.

From the research I've done - the CX and CXII are nearly identical. The latter has a faster processor and ability to do a couple more little things. The CAS is fully programmable and therefore not allowed on the ACT (and maybe SAT - I didn't check). Oddly - Calc BC requires the CAS here although DD will take Stats instead.

I'm guessing they mean *any* of the Nspire series - but may want to wait til first day of school to confirm. I was surprised how many places have them in stock (Target/WalMart/OfficeMax etc - at least around here)

Here too. Should I just order or wait for a deal?
