DS2 gave me a huge list of stuff he wanted for his birthday but hardly any of it is available! Either it’s for LEGO sets that aren’t released yet or it’s a foam sword he decided he didn’t want to wait for and just bought or my parents managed to tag the scooter he wants! Any brilliant ideas? Silly me I thought I could put this off until now but his birthday is Monday. I just went through his whole VERY SPECIFIC list and I’ve got nothing!

He loves LEGO. He loves Harry Potter. He loves Ninjago (I feel like he’s old for this but he loves it!) He likes Star Wars and Marvel. He LOVES the Switch. He likes hiking and nature.

Anything brilliant come to mind? On non-party years (this year, obviously) we try to spend around $100.

A new Paper Mario game just came out for the switch.

My son is 13 and has similar interests. Does he have the Harry Potter Lego games for the switch? I even play them with my son. My son has a nice walking stick he likes a lot. Does he have a pocket knife? Getting one made my son feel grown up and he loves using it to open things.

These are great ideas--esp the pocket knife (if he is responsible) and a walking stick! You could also get him a compass and a trail guide of some sort, trails, animals, foliage, etc.

Are there any Ninjago sets in the stores now that he does not have? I would buy one of these: https://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=ninjago+sets

and a Harry Potter t-shirt https://www.target.com/p/boys-harry-potter-hogwarts-short-sleeve-t-shirt-black/-/A-78389702?preselect=77574956#lnk=sametab or https://www.target.com/p/men-s-harry-potter-hogwarts-express-short-sleeve-graphic-t-shirt-maroon/-/A-79565913?preselect=79148919#lnk=sametab.

Tell him you wanted to surprise him.

I love the pocket knife and walking stick idea. In addition, my boys are 14 and 11 and love the process of buying their own gifts. They would be happy with a little gift with a gift card for legos to shop on their own. Something about the process of selecting it and then buying it. Just an idea if you find yourself buying something just to buy something.

All excellent ideas!!

I talked to DH and were going to do Paper Mario, a pocket knife and an (online) clothes shopping spree. We figured he’ll love the game (huge Mario fan), the pocket knife is both grown up and also feeds his more outdoorsy interests, and the clothes are to represent that he’s a teen!

For our DS 13th birthday, they get a "nice" watch good for outdoor activities- ie waterproof, compass, light etc. We have had great luck with G Shock watches. Great prices and selection at Kohls. They currently have 30% off codes, free shipping right now.
