We're 100% remote and have been making do with the $15 or less second hand chairs when we first moved in 7-8 years ago. They're not cutting it. Can you help me figure out some other options? Subjects are 5'6" and 5'3" and both boys are having a growth spurt.

We got DD (14) this one from Staples https://www.staples.com/union-scale-essentials-mesh-back-fabric-task-chair-gray-un58149/product_24419911
but I don't want the big plasticky backs glaring at me in the playroom. (from the best spot at the kitchen island, I can see the backs of the chairs.)

We got MIL this one for Christmas, but we're not spending $200 on kid chairs (we really need 3 more for downstairs.) https://www.staples.com/Tempur-Pedic-TP9000-Polyester-Computer-and-Desk-Office-Chair-Black-TP9000-BLK/product_324021

I got https://www.target.com/p/tania-contemporary-task-chair-cream-lumisource/-/A-79621235these for my older tweens and they have been great. Comfortable and I love that the wheels are all metal (we’ve had chairs with the plastic wheels stop rolling after a while.) Looks like there’s only white and teal left.

We just bought the same union & scale chair for DS1 - he's had the same desk/chair since kindergarten (now a senior) and never actually sat in the chair much until March. It was about to break (nice looking chair from West Elm) and wasn't comfortable at all. We needed something comfortable of course but had to fit a tight spot. I bought the one w/o arms. I actually want to buy another (w/o arms) to fit at our built in kitchen desk. We did see a decent selection of chairs at both Home Sense and At Home, if you're shopping!

I'd also suggest a used office furniture store. I know when I reached out to several places in the spring they said they were over capacity and stopped buying out office inventories!

I bought this one at Costco a couple of months ago. It was $99.99 in store. It’s the chair they use in the offices in the Costco warehouse I was at. I was going to buy a chair at staples but figured with the great Costco return policy I would be better off buying it there in case I didn’t like it. So far so good!

I bought DH the Tempur-Pedic one from Staples (similar to the one you bought but with additional lumbar support) way back in April and just bought 2 more for my kids. They're still 100% virtual and will continue to be so for the rest of the school year most likely so I figured I'd just invest in good chairs that will last till they leave for college. DH and DS1 spend like 12 hours a day at their desks so they may as well be comfortable.

Was that the Tempurpedic 6400? DH got that one in March and loves it. DD felt like it was "trying too much to be good" and she said she would be tempted to be in it too long, lol.

Just wondering if there are any more suggestions out there... I see a Staples $20/100 and $40 off 200 coupon on Slickdeals and am wondering if I should get 3 more "essentials" chairs for $189 or one good tempurpedic for $189. I have sat in the Costco one and it seemed comfy too, but I can't do a side by side comparison without buying/returning something.

My DDs (ages 10 and 12) have this chair from IKEA- no complaints. They’ve been using them for several years, but are sitting in them almost all day now with virtual school.

I would check IKEA- they have lots of office chair options- some expensive, and some not expensive at all. And they all have reviews.

I wouldn't mind looking at the back of it while cooking, lol. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/langfjaell-office-chair-gunnared-blue-black-s39177663/

We had these in our office! There's a long warranty on it should anything rip, etc. We found the arm rests ripped on alot of them (the chairs weren't even used my employees - just conference rooms that weren't used that much). The plunger part was also an issue and several would just sink lower and lower over time.

I found a few online lists rating the ikea office chairs that I used as a guide when I was replacing the one for my daughter's desk. She had a child's desk chair of theirs and it just wasn't comfortable for all the time she was spending at her desk for online school. Lots of chairs were out of stock at the time so I ended up with the Blekberget https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/bleckberget-swivel-chair-idekulla-beige-30358639/(not comfortable to me but my 8 year old likes it) and the Alefjall https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/alefjaell-office-chair-grann-golden-brown-70419985/ It was more than I wanted to spend, but my DD loves it.

I needed a new one last year (bad timing) - I researched a lot and got this one (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046TR4IW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and have been really happy with it.

Prior to this chair she was happy with this chair which DD2 is now using.

We have asked her if she wants the other office chair we have from Ikea and she said the current chair is fine.

If you want a good office chair the Flintan one is good and comfortable. Dh used it for 6 months before he was finally able to get his office chair from the office.

Get a good comfortable one that is adult sized, and don’t worry about how it looks. They’ll spend hours in it!!

DH brought home his work chair, DS got our office chair as he’s taller than me and the back is taller on that chair, and I got one from Amazon. I also got a seat cushion that’s memory foam as I spend all day siting in it. I rarely sit in my job so being on zoom all day has been tough

I wouldn't do a cheap faux leather one if it's going to get a ton of use. DS2 is currently using a faux leather one from DH's old office and it now has several cracks all over the seat that have only developed since he started online school (which is why I'm replacing it with the Tempur-Pedic one).

I had a faux leather chair from Staples for about 10-12 years before it started cracking.

I've had a faux leather chair from Staples in my office where it gets heavy daily use for 5+ years and it still looks brand new. I bought it on sale for $75, so if I only get 8-10 years out of it I am totally ok with that.

I agree with getting a comfortable, adult sized chair. Even for my 6 year old I regretted the first chair I bought him last spring, and when we decided to do distance learning all year I took him to Staples to pick out a new one that is much more comfortable and will most likely last him through high school.
