It's past time to upgrade from the tiny tikes one we have, any recommendations? We have a concrete RV pad off to the side of the house, so plenty of room. Also, is it worth buying used? i've been a couple on CL for about $50 but I don't know if new is better b/c the sun might have broken the plastic down (a concern around here). Thanks!

We bought our hoop from Costco. We’ve had it several years and it still looks brand new!

According to Amazon we have this one. It’s 7 years old and I think we replaced the hoop once. I have very casual basketball kids. They don’t play, they just like to shoot hoops for fun. I think if they were serious players I’d have one built in.

IF you buy an adjustable height one, it's nice as it will grow with the kids. Most will need either sand or water in the base/we also have a concrete block on ours. We occasionally have to replace the net as DS shoots a lot. The one's you have set in the ground are nice but pricey, you can probably find one on your local selling sites for cheap and see how much use it gets. I see them free or for 50 dollars here.

Same, except we have this hoop. It's actually a really good hoop for being portable.

We have one in the street and have to move it periodically. It’s the 52” lifetime and it was a BF special at Sears years ago. The bigger the better, IMO. If you have a pad, a built in one makes sense. Ours was $170 at the time I believe. Costco and Sam’s would be good places to look. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWe have roughly the same hoop, I think it was around $150? We wanted a portable hoop because we wanted to try a few places and move it during the winter. In your car, I would do something in-ground. I still worry about ours tipping over!

IF you plan to stay there a while and/or IF having a hoop adds to the value of your house, look at the adjustable Gorilla Goal ones. Not inexpensive but really hold up.

Costco has a 54 inch Spalding in store for 229 through March 14

I think the same one or a lifetime one that looks similar is at Sam’s Club for 299 right now.

We have a Lifetime one as well. We've had it for years and it still looks brand new. We've replaced the hoop once.

We had a freestanding lifetime adjustable hoop from Academy that lasted about 5 years, then it collapsed into the driveway while the kids were playing with it and almost landed on them. I will never have a freestanding again. Now we have one attached to the house above the garage.

We have a Goalrilla adjustable goal. When we poured our pool decking they extended the patio on one side of our yard adjacent to the pool for a little half-court. It is secured by anchor bolts that are sunk four feet deep in the ground and in poured concrete. My kids are 13, 16 and 19. My 19 year olds friends are the size of grown men! She has them come over and I have no worries about them dunking on it. The 13 year old likes to lower it down so he and his friend can dunk too. It gets TONS of use and is super secure.

We have a Spaulding adjustable goal, although I no longer see the style on the website. It’s fine for our purposes. DS, 11, plays AAU basketball, and he mainly uses it to practice his shooting.
