What kind of person does this?

We are buying an old farmhouse that needs updating. We plan to do some of the work ourselves and we would like to not spend a lot of money.

I have a very vague idea of how I'd like it to look (kind of Joanna Gaines style) but not enough vision to actually get this done for myself. What kind of professional do I want to hire to walk me through the process of deciding what to do and how to "make over" the house? Not so much furniture but actual remodeling.

A designer of some sort. The previous owners of our house were a general contractor and interior designer and they redid our house in that style.

When we remodeled our house, we redid 3/4 and changed interior layout, an architect drew up the plans. We had several back and forth conversations about changing things. Then needed a structural engineer to draw up plans as removing walls. We ended up using a design build firm, so they did the contractor work too.
