View Full Version : I Bought a Dress and It Needs Something

I bought this dress (https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=832105012&cid=7322&pcid=7322&vid=8&cpos=1&cexp=2223&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D7322&cvar=16849&ctype=Listing&cpid=res21032714767823546551085&ccam=6335#pdp-page-content) from Old Navy; I wear a 1X and probably need cuter sandals to go with it (my Clarks should be fine for just bumming around, but I think it kinda wants red or coral wedges for fancier times.)

Here is a terrible picture (https://photos.app.goo.gl/scDVgYHz3hbfmeeKA) of me trying it on so I could decide whether or not I'm keeping it (I am.)

Since it's still cool here at night, I was thinking about a lightweight denim jacket to wear with it (and my other shorter dresses) but I'm not sure what I should be looking at, other than a medium wash or white (which scares me, but I am trying to get out of my comfort zone.)

Help?

I can't see your photo, the link takes me to a log in for tinkercad. Did you buy the yellow floral dress? It looks really cute! I'd pair it with a soft denim jacket (any wash) and white sneakers. Or brown sandals. Or metallic sandals. I wouldn't pair that dress with red or orange.

Yes, I bought the yellow dress.

I fixed the link; I was messing with a Girl Scout project in TinkerCad earlier and didn't realize I hadn't copied my photo link.

Very cute. :)
I wouldn't do white. I think a denim jacket or a cardigan would be good. for cardigans- https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=5510470620002&cid=20408&pcid=20408&vid=1&nav=meganav%3AWomen%3AShop+Women%27s+Categories%3A Sweaters+&cpos=34&cexp=2223&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D20408&cvar=16849&ctype=Listing&cpid=res21032717521314932276175#pdp-page-content

I think a denim jacket would work well. Any wash would be fine.

I wish; they don't work for my ankles.

Cute! I would do a denim jacket and either white Superga shoes, flip flops or neutral wedges (brown, metallic etc) I live south enough that I wear lots of summer dresses with nice-ish flip flops. Super comfy.

Yes, a lightweight denim jacket, I'd go a lighter wash as well.

Like others said a neutral wedge sandal (slip on/or wedge flip flop) or white sneakers, but I"d do a sandal, I find sneakers don't do me any justice in a dress, I need a bit of a heel or less clunky footwear.

Look for a less stiff denim (so avoid Old Navy, theirs are very stiff). Maybe this color? https://www.maurices.com/product/traditional-medium-wash-denim-jacket/114131?camp=PLA%7cACQ%7cGOOG%7cNONBRAND%7cPRODUCT% 7cMaurices_SHOP_NB_Outerwear_GGL_PLA%7cpla%7c46942 0875100%7c11246537222%7conline%7d&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5Om25qHU7wIVZT2tBh0L7gXnEAQYAyAB EgKzlPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I'm looking at a few options at Torrid for a jacket (https://www.torrid.com/product/denim-trucker-jacket---light-wash/14459185.html?cgid=Clothing_Jackets_JeanJacketsVes ts#start=1). I haven't owned a denim jacket that I wore regularly since ... 1989.

While I gravitate towards dark wash for jeans, I was thinking a medium or even light wash would be best for this.

I think any wash of jacket would be fine. Just pick the one that is most versatile for your wardrobe not just this dress.

I think that one looks good! I also prefer dark wash jeans, but bought a medium wash denim jacket last fall. I've only worn it once or twice (because I haven't been going to my office much, and I bought it mostly to wear to work with a couple of dresses) but I do like it!

I like that Torrid jacket, and it’s a good price! I have a similar wash jacket. Just make sure it’s soft - hard denim jacket is too uncomfortable to wear for long

I didn't feel like accepting the cookies for Torrid so couldn't read the description. You'll want one with a bit of spandex for comfort. Soft material is good too!

Costco has the best jean jacket ever! (I'm sorry I have mentioned it so many times). It's so stretchy and comfy.

I can't wear straight sizes right now - too broad in the shoulder & full in the chest, but thank you for the recommendation!

I'm building a wardrobe because my jeans have worn out at the thigh, so I can do pretty much anything.

I think a medium wash would be best for pieces I already have, too. I favor bright colors & loud prints; medium wash denim feels like a good way to temper that.
