So I got a call today. DS was supposed to get his well-check in August, so the Dr office was supposed to call us in July to schedule it. Well, they called today. OK. So, I said "what's available?", she said "hmm... nothing in July... Nothing in August.... Nothing in September or October. The November calendar hasn't been set up yet."

So... you called to tell me (DS) needs an appointment, but you don't have any??? Really?

Um... I guess so. Sorry.

Yeah. thanks.

- I did get that Aug 9th is when the November calendar is supposed to open, so I should call that day to schedule. But still.... -

Okay, that’s really funny and incredibly frustrating. And it reminds me that my boys need well child visits.

I hear you, that is so ridiculous! Last month, DD had a corn on her foot and our ped suggested we see a dermatologist to get it frozen. Well, every single pediatric dermatologist I called had no openings until November!

Rebound doctor visits (everyone who skipped during the pandemic) is causing such a backlog. Our dentist is booking 8mos out and not 6mos for cleaning because they can’t keep up/have enough staff.

Sooooo frustrating! While I do understand that there's reasons for it, as a patient/parent I can't stand when practices only have a couple months of schedule availability open....and they're all full!!! I don't like needing to schedule out several months, but I understand it happens and I can certainly live with it for routine visits. But I can't stand being told "oh, there's nothing at all available and you'll have to call back on X day to try to get something". Your situation is extra frustrating in that THEY called YOU before realizing they couldn't actually schedule you.

That's super frustrating! And almost comical they called you to schedule without availability.

I also never understood how a pedi office couldn't have same-day sick appointments available when I would call first thing in the morning. Like they kept accepting patients and then overbooked well-visits or something. You can't schedule your kids' sick days ahead of time and childhood illness happens. We switched peds early on and this was a huge contributing factor.

That is very frustrating! Appointments for some specialists around here were already difficult to book before the pandemic and is now even more difficult. DH had a skin issue and the first appt. available was months away. Well the issue got worse and he ended up having to go to the ER. After which he was able to see the derm. the next day!

Fortunately, we do seem to be able to get in to see the ped. for day of sick visits. It may be with another ped or an NP, but at least someone can see us.

Oh that is so annoying! Our pediatrician always gets us in same day, even if we call later in the morning or on a weekend morning. They are often not accepting new patients.

We switched to a large group this year and I was thrilled to find out that they schedule the next well visit while you are still in the exam room. We are already booked for next July.
