My college age DD is asking for movie recs. She lives in the sorority house and the girls

My college age daughter just watched Mean Girls with her friends and it was a hit. Now they are planning to see the musical. I would add Clueless, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility.

I love this list! These are all my favorites. I'd add in Legally Blonde and Pitch Perfect too.

They'll love the Mean Girls musical. It was SO much funnier than I expected.

I don’t know if they are too “mature” for your dd but I love all the Nancy Meyer movies. I particularly love them for the interiors of the homes. They are just so cozy and soothing. But that might not appeal to college age girls. I don’t know.

The Holiday
Somethings Gotta Give
its complicated
What Women Want
The Intern

I also loves the old Sandra Bullock movies
Practical Magic
While you Were sleeping
Hope Floats
The Net
Miss Congeniality 1&2

I also love the old Julia Robert’s movies besides Pretty Woman
Mystic Pizza
Steel Magnolias
Run Away Bride

And I have to admit, I love a lot of Kate Winslet’s movies although some of them require some mental chewing to figure out.

One last one that I saw in college and loved. It’s a true story and is so inspirational. It really is proof that if someone puts their mind to something, they can accomplish anything: Lorenzo’s Oil.

Another great Susan Sarandon movie was of course Thelma and Louise. Not sure if that was already mentioned. With bonus pics of a young Brad Pitt!

ETA- loved many of the John Grisham movies
The Firm- with Tom cruise
Pelican Brief
The Client - with Tommy Lee Jones & Susan Sarandon
The Rainmaker- with Claire Danes and Matt Damon
The Juror- with Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin

Does anyone remember Better Off Dead? It was hilarious when I was in high school, not sure how funny it stil is

My college age daughter just watched Mean Girls with her friends and it was a hit. Now they are planning to see the musical. I would add Clueless, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility.

I'd also add the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma, which might make an interesting double-bill with Clueless.

I can only recommend the BBC Pride and Prejudice, but if they like the Jane Austen adaptations, maybe Austenland would be a cool flick to add? I haven't seen it (read the book; love the book; love the cast, too) but it could work.

This and the nonmusical Hairspray are the only John Waters flicks I've ever seen; they're fantastic! (Speaking of which, yes, OG Hairspray and musical Hairspray are both recommended. Comparing Divine to John Travolta in the same role is really funny.)

I like classic screwball comedies and anything that pairs Katharine Hepburn with Spencer Tracy! I'll suggest them, although the girls may not be into them just yet.

This is my list:

Bringing Up Baby (Katharine Hepburn & Cary Grant)
Ball of Fire (Barbara Stanwyck & Gary Cooper)
Pat and Mike (Katharine Hepburn & Spencer Tracy)
Pillow Talk (Doris Day & Rock Hudson)
Lover Come Back (Doris Day & Rock Hudson)
That Touch of Mink (Doris Day & Cary Grant)
The Absent-Minded Professor (original from 1961)
Son of Flubber (sequel from 1963, though it's not as funny as the original)
Bell Book and Candle (James Stewart & Kim Novak, although Mr Stewart is miscast; the supporting actors alone make this one well worth your time!)

One I haven't seen mentioned, that's a bit hard to find

Mrs. Winterbourne

Seriously, Ricki Lake, Brendan Fraser (playing identical twins), Shirley Maclaine. It's a fun one that I always stop to watch if I catch it on TV. :)

Also, speaking of Brendan Fraser movies, the 1999 version of The Mummy.

Great movie! We even tried to do an Airplane! marathon but the shtick got a bit old by the first third of the second movie.

Also want to add Tombstone. Doc Holiday/Val Kilmer is the best in that movie.

Coming back to this thread to say Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Suggested by DH, who turned to me just now to tell me it had to be on the list the BBB was making.
