Taking the boys in April to NYC we plan to see Hamilton but looking for other ideas. I've been to NYC dozens of times but usually for work. Boys are 16 and 14. Like history. Would love ideas for restaurants, theatre, and what to see.

Definitely the Intrepid museum, Statue of Liberty (must book now), Museum of Natural History. See if Central Park Conservancy is doing tours again yet. Walk across Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building or another observatory. Grand Central Station (used to be a great free tour there). There are also food tours, pizza tours, bike tours. Lots of good info on Trip Advisor forums. I like to use Eater.com to pick restaurants. I am in the midst of planning a March trip and everything must be booked in advance. Sadly, many of my favorite restaurants have closed so I am starting mostly from scratch to figure out food. Make reservations for everything you can and plan on it taking twice as long as you think to get between places.

Go on a weekday to the Chelsea Market at 10:30/11 and just let them have free range to sample anything that catches their eye.
Do either Top of the Rock or maybe the Edge for observation decks
If the NBC studio tour is running, do that.

Spend time in Central Park, for sure.
Statue of Liberty eats up a lot of time so skip it if it isn’t an absolute must. My kids have been content seeing it from Battery Park.
The Met is awesome, especially the Temple of Dendur. If they ever read the Percy Jackson books, it’s a fun tie in.

All of the above, plus don’t forget the 911 memorial. DS and I went a couple of years ago when he was 12 and we also loved all the fun eats in NYC like Shake Shack (original), Magnolia Bakery, Ess a Bagel, pizza, etc.

High line and Central Park. Village or Soho for shops and atmosphere.

The New-York Historical Society (https://www.nyhistory.org) is literally across 77th Street from AMNH and it's fantastic; DD loves the Tiffany Lamps exhibit. I think it's an awesome little museum.

Depending on how much Hamilton-related history you want to pack into the trip, you may also be able to visit the Morris-Jumel Mansion (https://www.morrisjumel.org) and/or Hamilton Grange (https://www.nps.gov/hagr/index.htm) by April.

Oh, and if they want to visit Hamilton's grave, it's one of the sites you can visit on the Downtown Alliance's suggested itinerary site (https://downtownny.com/explore/plan-your-trip/itineraries-trip-ideas/).

Aside from that ... people-watching on the steps at the Met or NYPL's 5th Avenue branch (https://www.nypl.org/locations/schwarzman) (Schwarzman Building) were my favorite things to do in my teens.

And the Tenement Museum (https://www.tenement.org) participates in the North American Reciprocal Museum Association (https://narmassociation.org), so if you have a membership to another museum that participates, you should be able to get discounted admission.

Chinatown is a huge hit with my kids. The food is sooo good. We like 4-5-6 (for like the past 40 plus years) but there are other good ones too. Although you probably have excellent Chinese food where you are now, so you may not need it. We have terrible Chinese food here.
