We have 2 TV's now in our house (one on main floor and one in basement). Comcast/Xfinity is our only option for high speed internet and DH and I both work from home. We currently have the basic cable (mainly local network channels) with high speed internet plan and the price keeps going up. Its not cheap to do just internet, but I'm looking around to see if we can fulfill our TV needs without using Comcast. Our main floor TV has a Roku. The girls and I mostly watch Disney Plus or Netflix, or other free channels on Roku. They do want to add Hallmark so we can finish the last 2 seasons of When Calls the Heart, and they also enjoy HGTV and Food Network, so bonus if we can get any of those. They do watch cable for The Voice (either live or replayed on Peacock which is free with our cable, and over the summer used it for the Olympics and America's Got Talent. DH wants to be able to watch Steelers football in the basement so needs NBC, Fox, and CBS. It looks like any other services that offer the live channels he needs for football ends up being more than what we pay for Comcast right now. I've looked at Sling TV (which does not have an app on his Vizio smart TV but I think he can chromecast it?), Hulu Live, YouTube Live, and Fubo. He can get Fox on the Smart TV without Cable and could purchase Paramount, but then is still missing NBC. Any other ideas of what to check? Or should I shell out more money to Comcast for a second cable box?

We use YouTube TV. We wanted networks, sports, HGTV, Food Network and a few others. This was the best option for our needs. It isn’t cheap though. But you aren’t renting any equipment so that’s a plus.

I really wish we had an option for cheaper internet. If we cut cable, our internet alone will be about $97 month :( All the extra sports and broadcasting fees that keep getting added to Comcast cable drive me nuts.

We also have YouTube TV as it is the only streaming service that offers PBS. We pay $60 for internet only from AT&T and around $60 for YouTube TV. I’d see if you have any other internet options.

Another YouTube TV user. We cut the cable cord about 2 years ago. The kids and I watch more streamed shows and movies but DH was the holdout since he watches lots of sports. We get most of what we want on YouTube TV (NFL, college football and PL soccer). We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ and I'm pretty sure DH has added Peacock since some of the soccer he wants is shown there. We had the streaming services on top of Direct TV before so it was worth cutting the cord.

I wish that was an option here. I checked again last night and there is cable internet through Comcast, DSL through Verizon, and dial up through some small providers. We have a lot of devices and with DH and I both working from home, DEL and dial up won’t cut it.

I could switch to FIOS where I live, but it is not any cheaper. I thought about going to internet only but once I add in all the subscriber services, it is not really any cheaper. Xfinity pays for my netflix. I get HBO with the highest internet speed and since I work from home, I need that speed. It is annoying.

Yikes! Are you in a very rural area? It’s been a long time since I’ve heard of providers offering dial-up. Even pre-pandemic, that was old technology. I can’t imagine how the many new WFH users during the pandemic were able to manage if that was their only option.

Have you looked into Starlink? We are very rural, and are eagerly waiting. We have been on the wait list for what feels like forever, but is actually about nine months now. Last we were told, we were set to get their internet before the end of January, but they are having delay due to the chip shortage.
We have the worst internet and pay a fortune for it (we're talking downloads in the single digits). We have ten+ year old "Dish TV" equipment and are looking forward to trashing it, but we can't until we get better internet.

I have never cut the cord as it was never a big money saver in the past; it was always about the same price so not worth the hassle. I just renegotiated with DirecTV and by changing my package and only losing a few channels like NHL Network (I think) and cancelling Showtime (which had been free on a promo) I will be saving about $30 a month. I am halfway through my DirecTV contract which we got last year so we will re look at this again next summer. Currently my local sports network is only available on DirecTV or cable and local sports for me is a must. If I can keep the $130 or so price for internet and cable then I am ok with that as that would be the similar price with YouTube TV. We have the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle (although I am somehow only paying $5.99 a month for all three….[emoji1696]this continues), Netflix, and Amazon Prime.

ETA: we have one television, two iPads, one laptop, and 3 cell phones.

Something that was very cool about YouTube Tv is that if you are traveling, you can log into your TV account and all of your content is right there on the vacation TV. It's all in the cloud vs tethered to a device in your home. I don't know why I find that so cool but I do. :)

We have done this with Netflix and Amazon Prime as well if the TVs are equipped for it.

For those of you with YouTube TV, do you pay per TV? We have Verizon FIOS and have to pay per TV which is expensive.

No. That was another reason we stopped getting Fios. YouTube TV is 3 streams and 6 accounts per household for $65

We have 6 TVs. We would be able to use any three of the six at one time for $65?

We looked into cutting again (we used to use Sling) but we would pay more if we just had internet plus sling/youtube/hulu, etc. Our total bill is $118 for the highest speed internet they have (we have about 30 devices connected at any one time between the phones, Chromebooks, computers, ring doorbell and cameras, light switches, etc), and it would be about $20 less if we cut cable. Then we would spend more than that on a cable replacement with less channels, so we are stuck. I hate it.

On one account, we regularly have three TVs going on different channels.

:yeahthat: So do we. Sometimes we even add in DH's iPad to that.

Haha, actually no, we are not in a super rural area. South Central PA. Comcast just has a monopoly here. My in-laws have had Verizon Fios for several years but it is still not available in my county (they live about 30 min. north of us but different county). Comcast went down last week and everyone here went nuts because it took out everyone's internet and TV for about an hour or more. Lots of people still working from home (most of DH's company), schools, banks, etc. It really stinks that we have no options, so they can keep raising prices and people will pay because there is nothing else to switch to. I talked to a rep on the phone and they best they can give me to add a second TV is $148 for a year (then the price will increase), for basic cable and 200 mbps internet. I think we may actually take that, as it will give us more channels and is only $7 more than what we are currently paying (until the price goes up of course). We own our own equipment for the internet, but they tack on so many fees for the cable.
