I made these guys for DD and her cousin. They are crochet, as I cannot knit.
I made a couple pillowcase dresses for our trip to WDW. This is my first sewing attempt ever (and first attempt at adding pics!).

eta: I think that worked. If I posted it wrong, please let me know! I also made a giraffe print pillowcase dress for Animal Kingdom, but my camera is mad at me and I can't take a pic. I did a terrible job, but this is the first time I have ever used a sewing machine, so I am pretty proud :)
Those look awesome....great job for a first sewing project!!! How old is your DD? Seems like those might be around a 4T size? My DD is 2, and those would be so comfy and cool for the summer!

lol - good guess - my girls are 4 yo. I didn't use a real pattern, so they aren't an official size. I googled pillowcase dress thanks to JTsMom (my enabler over on the Disney thread) and got instructions. I kind of held the fabric up to see how long it should be. :bag The seams are all wonky and there are some big goofs, but when they are wearing them you can't really tell. (at least that is what I tell myself!) They were fun to make. But now my girls want me to put a mickey head on everything they own! :)
:applause: Those look great. I want to try my second set of pillowcase dresses soon. The first ones I made are definitely very rough!
Yesterday I did my first ever booth at a May Day festival. I was trying to sell my crocheted dolls, scrubbies, wash clothes and a couple scarves. I made $5. Wooohooo. That almost half covered my lunch and the sunscreen I had to buy at the last minute because it was in the 90's. I actually had a lot of fun at the festival though and I didn't have to pay for the booth so no worries.

Sorry for the slow reply. I have been crocheting for about 10 years. I taught myself from one of those "Teach yourself to crochet in 1 day" type books. LOL! Now, I have taught 2 friends, both of whom are quite good.
The piglets were in someways easy (they really only use the most basic stitch), but you do have to be able to follow a pattern. The basic books will explain how to read a pattern (it is all shorthand: ex: "ch 24, dc in 2nd ch from hook, *2 sc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, 2 sc, dec twice, repeat from *.) Once you learn the code it is not bad. You do have to be super particular about counting stitches and following instructions--that works for me and my tyoe A ways.
I suggest that if you want to try it, you find a book and play with it. Maybe friend IRL who can give you a few pointers (it is hard if you cannot see what the other person is doing). Start with a worsted weight yarn in a synthetic blend (something cheap like RedHeart is good to practice). I would say just start with some little swatches, and then try a basic project from your first book. After that, you could tackle something bigger like a baby blanket. Then, the sky is the limit.
I think the key to have a really nice outcome is to pick a really cute pattern (there is a lot of dowdy looking stuff out there IMO, but increasingly, people are publishing cute, modern looking patterns). The other key is to be very careful picking your yarn. Find a good store and take your time choosing something just right for your project.

It's painted wood (MDF), and I made a template using the computer. Dh did the cutting, I did the painting. We put picture hangers on the back, and it's up in her room now with a LOT more "pretties"! It actually was pretty easy, just a bit time consuming!
