Need one WITHOUT an answering machine but WITH a desktop keypad/speakerphone option so that I can use that if the handset isn't there. I can't believe I'm having so much trouble finding one! The one I'm replacing is on the fritz and isn't being made anymore...
I just disable the answering machine on mine. It has a base keypad. I LOVE that it connects to my cell phone, so when someone calls my cell, all my house phones ring with my cell's ringtone. I don't carry my phone around at all when I'm home.
It's a Panasonic KX-TGE270. (it's a few years old, so I'm sure there's a newer version out now.) ETA: I especially like that I can give each handset a name (kitchen, office, MBR), so we always know where it goes. It's visible right on the screen.
I have a Panasonic system similar to pastrygirl's and I like it very much. I too just disable the answering machine, no problem.
Costco often sells Panasonic phone systems at a good price.
