Christmas part dress for Vegas
Bit of fun...my husband’s work has a Christmas party in Vegas in December. This year I’d like to get a dress from rent the runway, and use it as a goal to work towards. I’ve been working out for last year and losing weight. Want to help me look at dresses? Post a link to a dress in the comments.
I’m 5’3”, currently 142, but hope to be in 130s by Christmas. I’m very pear shaped, usually wear knee length dress, I’ve got small waist and defined shoulders/arms (weight lifting is showing results). I’m 46, so nothing too short or revealing. Many of DH’s colleagues are in 20s and 30s, and they wear tight/short dress as it’s Vegas. Even if I could wear that kind of dress, I wouldn’t be comfortable. So want classy, but something party too!

You’ll look great in any of these!! I like the red lace but long sleeves may be too hot right now.

It is a gorgeous dress. The reviews mention it runs large, and many wore 1-2 sizes down. It looks different depending on how tall and shape of the person. Some were more busting out of the top and it’s very va va voom , and others were more contained.
Petite sizes are hit or miss for me. Probably because I’m at top of the petite height, and I’m short in the torso but leg length is more regular. I have to try on both regular and petite sizes to find best fit, and size up on the petite from the regular. I didn’t think to search for petite length on RTR. I’m used to a dress always being a bit longer on me than on the model.
There’s a RTR store about an hour from me. It’s an option to have dresses sent to the store for pickup and you try on there. They do have other dresses too, so chance to change to another dress, but you need to make appointment if you want their help. Sounds good but yelp reviews on customer service are mixed, and I’m sure it’ll be crazy around time I’ll need to go in. Might be worth the drive though if I could make it work - I’m usually really busy then too.

I love Rent the Runway, but tbh I would wait until at least October or November to place a rental. I would also look at a large Nordstrom Rack because I have also found fancy dresses for less than $30 there. I hope there is a nice large one close to you, although the one at South Coast is one of the best in the region. It is going to be a crap shoot, but I have had good luck with Nordstrom Rack when RTR doesn’t have something I want. I wait until the last minute because Rent the Runway’s stock does change. There are also a million ways to search and in the dress finder you need to keep in mind that it doesn’t include dresses XS-XL only ones in traditional sizes. I weed out dresses by looking at reviews of dresses that are close to my size.
Also you have an advantage as you are within 30 minutes of the RTR store in Woodland Hills, right? I have thought about going over there, but it is an hour+ from my house and I haven’t been in that much of a pinch when looking for a dress. Send me a pm if you have more RTR questions.
