Gift ideas for 8 year old boys

DD has two friends that are turning 8 within days of each other, both are boys. I asked the moms for gift ideas and they are stumped as well. The two boys are also friends with each other and will be at each other's parties, so I rather not get them the same thing. My fall back idea is Target gift cards, but these are both good friend (not just schoolmates) so if I can be a little more creative, I would rather do that. One likes baseball and the other likes football. TIA!

We've done Legos, Perplexus, meccano and mip robots, a gears building toy, all of which were well received

Fort the football kid, check out the Nerf Firevision set (sorry I can't get the link to paste). My DS2 loves all legos, robotics, playing on his scooter, nerf guns.

For the baseball kid, blitzball, Walmart has the best price, it's okay if they've got it, extra bats and balls are fine. My 12 year old and his buddies who play travel baseball still use theirs.
