Decorating help
I am currently planning/working on DD's new big girl room. We have this quilt from PBK

A couple of questions (although I am sure there will be more). The new room has no overhead light fixture of any kind and that drives me crazy. I was thinking about this fixture, but am not sure if A)it works with the quilt and B) is too small for the size of the room(approx 10X18). http://www.gallery803.com/ProductDet...ProductID=1010
The walls are already painted the yellow color in the quilt. I plan on painting some old oak furniture from my parents a cream/antique white color and picking out new hardware since this set is at least 40 years old. I am not adverse to adding another color to the walls (with chair rail, stripes, etc) I just don't want to repaint the whole room. I was thinking about adding a vinyl wall sticker to have some more color on the walls as an alternative to painting. I was looking on ETSY (man there are over 600 pages of them!) and kind of liked this one http://www.etsy.com/listing/49707404...rder=&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title
Is it too babyish for my 4yo? Also, once again, not sure if it works with the quilt (more "theme" wise than color wise). I am not going for a theme, but I think it can look strange if you combine modern and traditional, or bright and muted in the wrong way. Does that make sense? Anyway, any advice would be appreciated!
TIA!

I love that vinyl wall sticker. I think that would be cute with the quilt and add a nice contrast to the yellow walls.
Another option would be these: http://www.chiasso.com/store/item.as...4&ItemId=55580
I put them in my DD's Big Girl room and get a ton of compliments on them. I wanted something different but had already used vinyl wall stickers in DS's nursery and didn't want to use the same idea, even if it was in a completely different way. Anyway, another idea.
I bought a vintage calendar of old nursery rhyme prints and framed them to use as wall art. I also blew up 3 candid photos of DD to put above her headboard - all of them were various ages of her doing a different funny face.
Just throwing ideas out there for you. I get what you mean about not mixing too much, but to me, you could go vintage shabby chic (using really cool knobs for the dressers you're painting) or something more modern. That quilt is pretty versatile. If you aren't into painting, I wouldn't add anymore colors to the wall. We happen to have 4 colors on DD's wall, but that's only because we needed some pink but I WAS NOT going to have an entire pink room. We broke it up so the pink isn't too much.

I have to tell you that I love that wall decal but as a cheaper option check out: http://www.wallstickeroutlet.com/wal...RecordID=53581
I am in love with that for a kids room.

I like the quilt and I like the decal, but I'm not crazy about them together. The colors are right-on, but the quilt is so tropical and the decal is just a little more whimsical with the birds. Are you into monograms? I got a big beautiful monogram for DD's nursery on Etsy and put it right above her crib, and it looks beautiful.

I really like the decal / quilt together. Very pretty colors.
I agree w/ PP and I like the framed pics of DC - 3 different ones - above bed.
Maybe you can also add a mirror/decorative some place in the room. The one w/ the spokes coming out.

Thanks everyone for your response! Any opinions on the light fixture? Do you think this vinyl wall sticker works better?

I'll chime in on the light fixture. I do not care for it with the quilt-- the quilt is beachy/tropical and the light fixture is far more formal. I like the idea of a monogram or name, but the esty ones you just linked to seem a lot more formal than the quilt. They go with the chandelier, but not the quilt, IMHO. Are there any decals that are more beachy or tropical or just simple?

For me, with the quilt you have, this style of monogram is about as formal as I'd get:

What about something like these with a hibiscus that would mimic the tropical flowers on the quilt:

Sigh. I knew I should have thought this through more. I was trying too avoid something too tropical "theme-y". Her baby room was done that way (but definitely different- more beach/relaxing idea, but still). I know I should have thought of that before I bought the quilt with hibiscus flowers on it, but I was hoping to play down that aspect of the quilt. If you look closely only the bright pink and blue squares have the tropical flowers on them. All the other squares are seersucker, dots, stripes, non tropical flowers, geometric design, etc. The more "formal" items are coming in because that is what I tend to like - but doesn't really go in a little girls room. I am having a hard time finding the place between babyish and too sophisticated.
