I was just in Paris two weeks ago and Ste Chappelle was the ONLY PLACE where we had massive lines - even with timed tickets! It was off season and there were no lines at the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Orsay etc, and we waited a whole hour in the rain. During peak season, there might be a possible 90 minute two two hour line. With one day, I would skip

Some of my faves -
Rodin Museum
Luxembourg Gardens
Wandering around Montmartre
Dinner in the Marais (or picnic for lunch in Place de Vosges if weather permits)
Walking along the Seine early morning or sunset or take a boat ride
Impressionist wing in the Orsay
With only one day I would probably avoid anything with long lines or big crowds and walk as much as humanly possible and just soak in the atmosphere and see a few of the sights as you go by.

My two favorites in Paris are Luxembourg Gardens and the Musee de l'Orangerie. The paleontology portion of the Natural History Museum was a sleeper hit. We arrived before opening and went right in when they opened. So much to see in a small space. We were there for a while but you could dash in and out if you’re nearby.

I have never been, but La Sacre Couer has always been on my list since I saw a poster of it in French class almost 30 years ago. I would also want to go to the Louvre, Musee De Montmarte, and Monet’s Garden.
