Default Pictures- a how to include in either a post or for avatar.

All pictures must be hosted by a third party site. Here is a short list of some of the more popular sites for photo sharing.

    Picasa - http://picasa.google.com/
    Photobucket - http://photobucket.com/
    Snapfish - http://www.snapfish.com/
    Smugmug - http://www.smugmug.com/
    Shutterfly - http://www.shutterfly.com/
    flickr - http://www.flickr.com/
    PictureTrail - http://www.picturetrail.com

Pictures in posts - Once your picture is uploaded to the photo sharing site, copy the IMG Code and paste into your post. If the link already includes [img] before and [/img] after the URL, then paste it directly into your post. If it doesn't, use the button and paste the URL into the dialog box.

Avatars- If you are selecting a picture for your avatar, for best results, it should be 48 x 48 in size. Most photo sharing sites give you the option to resize your pictures to an avatar size. Enter the Direct Link (URL) and paste into the spot to Enter Avatar URL. Save changes.

Flickr instructions (as of Jan 2011):
    1. Click on your photo in Flickr to open it.
    2. Click on the small arrow next to SHARE THIS - top left of the photo.
    3. Select "Grab the HTML/BBCode"
    4. Select BBCode (not HTML, which is default)
    5. Select the size of photo you want from the drop down box, eg. small, thumbnail
    6. Copy the code that appears in the box. Make sure you have caught all of it!
    7. Paste this code directly into your forum post - do not use the Image (mountain) button for this.

    Default Not working

I can't get the avatar menu under my control panel to allow me to do anything. Still part of the update to be completed, I assume?

Nancy, here's what I did to get the image to appear in your post.

I copied just this part of the link you were trying to post:
    http://lh3.google.com/Hondonan/R_0U8...odysmaller.JPG

Then I clicked the picture button above the post

and pasted the link into the dialog box.

    HTH!

I think you need to right-click on the picture and hit properties to get the actual link for just the picture, not the album view.

Then, click the button that looks like this

and paste the link into the popup window.

And in case anyone is wondering..here are the instructions for getting the Enhanced Editor which allows the smilies.

User CP > Edit Options > near the bottom of the page, look for Message Editor Interface. Set this to either Standard or Enhanced (I use Enhanced).

    Thanks to the OP.

Hi-- I tried to post a picture out of Shutterfly, but I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I used the picture icon (with the mountains) and tried to paste the URL in there from Shutteryfly, but it just came up blank.

    Like this:

Any ideas or suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Shutterfly is definitely not the easiest site to post pictures from. I use www.picturetrail.com when I want to post something to a forum. It's quick and easy.

I just tried this and it worked:

    1. Log in to Shutterfly and pull up the Album containing the pic you want to post. Double-click on the picture to open it.
    2. Right-click on the picture and choose Properties. Copy the entire URL. (Be careful to copy the whole thing - it will not all be visible on the screen.) The URL should look something like this (minus the spaces): http ://im1.shutterfly. com/media /47b9cc20b3127ccef8966f4f5ed000000050O00AbNHDFw4aOG IPbz4G /cC/f%3D0/ ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry %3D400/
    3. When posting here, click the icon and paste the picture's URL.
    4. Please be aware, this may violate Shutterfly's terms of service. They do have a Share Your Pictures option, but I couldn't figure out how to embed a picture using that method. If someone knows how and would like to post, that would probably be more in line with their Terms & Conditions.
