    Default Bassinet pads/mattresses

How firm should a bassinet pad be? We've decided to get a bassinet to use during the first few months when I'm breastfeeding through the night. All the bassinets we've looked at have very thin, soft pads. After what I've read about cribs needing to have firm mattresses to prevent SIDS, it seems odd that the sleeping surface for bassinets would be so flimsy. Any suggestions on buying firmer pads for bassinets?

    Default RE: Bassinet pads/mattresses

Well, good question. We have NOT seen any firmer bassinet pads.

The biggest danger from SIDS is putting baby face down in fluffy bedding or, for that matter, any mattress. The fact that some bassinet mattresses aren't as firm as crib mattresses isn't really that big of a deal, considering you use it for a very short period of time and the baby is never put face down in it.

    Does that help?
