HI folks: If you haven't heard, we are about to debut a brand new edition of BABY BARGAINS coming out in April!

Here's a sneak peek at the updated and expanded crib chapter:

• New! Modern crib maker reviews! We'll take a look at the hot new trend in nurseries---that minimalist, modern look. New designers are reviewed, such as Netto, Nurseryworks, Oeuf and more!

• Expanded IKEA coverage includes an in-depth look at the chain's affordable nursery furniture.

• New crib makers---as always, we'll cover the latest crib designers to debut: Capretti Home, Creations, Baby Appleseed.

Speaking of Baby Appleseed, here is an excerpt of their upcoming review in our book:

Nursery Smart Web: nurserysmart.com; babyappleseed.com. 626-333-1919.

Newcomer Nursery Smart injects a bit of eco-activism for their Baby Appleseed furniture collection: when you buy one of their cribs, the company will plant ten trees in your baby’s name, thanks to a partnership with the non-profit American Forests.

While that is admirable, we were also impressed with the quality of Nursery Smart/Baby Appleseed: cribs are made of solid New Zealand pine and feature metal mattress support, hidden hardware and conversion to a full-size bed. Dressers are made of solid wood and feature dovetail joints and smooth drawer glides. While Baby Appleseed consists of just one collection (Millbury), Nursery Smart has three other collections of furniture. All are sold at Buy Buy Baby and online at sites like BabySuperMarket.com.

Pricing is reasonable: most Nursery Smart crib’s run $300 to $350; the Baby Appleseed Millbury crib is the most pricey at $550. A limited selection of dressers run $260 to $400. All the furniture is made in Vietnam.
