Default Are gliders a safety issue??

I recently bought a Best Chair fully upholstered glider from the Story Time series. I spent $700 and ended up returning it. It tips over very easily. Every time I went to get out of it, the back of the chair would flip up. Once my litle dog ran under when it was flipped up and it almost came down on her. And if you sat on the edge the whole thing would tip over. I know all of them will do that id you put weight on teh edge, but what if a toddler goes to crawl up on the chair? This one tipped easy enough that it would flip over on a child. And I didn't want to take any chances. Does anyone else have this problem with their glider? Are there gliders out there that don't tip as easily? I really want one, and now I don't know what to buy!

I bought a used Morigeau-Lepine glider and it does not tip. My upholstered rocking chair from Plow & Hearth doesn't tip either.
