Default Should I use bumper pads

    Hi-
I am due at the beginning of October with our first child. I have the baby's room all ready but am now wondering if I should be using the bumper pads or not. I recently read in a pediatrician's article that bumper pads were a hazard. He said that babies can get caught in them and suffocate and there is really no reason for having them. Also, I have heard that they are a major pain in terms of changing the crib sheet. I of course like how they look but don't want to jeopardize safety based on looks. Plus, if they are a safety hazard, I could use the money spent on the bumpers towards something else. What are people's experiences/opinions with bumper pads?
    Thanks so much
