Default New Janie + Jack Lines

are online + the boys lines are really cute. Too bad their clothing is so expensive! There's a whale shirt for those of you who wanted one for a boy and lots of other cute items.

Wow! Here's one line where I actually think I like the boys stuff *better* than the girls! :) How cute. Hopefully Gymboree will be taking a page from the J&J book very soon.

As always, I LOVE the new line! The hard part will be trying to choose what to get. I think I will definitely have to divide my choices into a few things to get this year and a few to grab on sale for next summer. Of course, I still haven't settled on what to get from the Flamingo line!!

Here's what I am liking from the new line:

    definitely:

    Actually,

it is my opinion that J & J borrows heavily from older Gymboree lines. Some of the names are almost the same!

-Both had Tea Party lines (looked different though)
    -Surf Girl vs Surfer Girl
-The new Post card line looks like a combination of Spring Showers and Vacation Time. I don't like that dark floral print at ALL; I think it's hideous, and the striped stuff looks almost identical to the striped stuff in Spring Showers. Also, the new European Holiday line will have striped items that look very similar.
-Flamingo Crossing is the SAME colours as Golf Pond.
-Little Ladybug has some pieces which look very similar to Ladybug from Gymboree in 2002.
-Cherry Stand looks like a mixture of Cherries (Gymboree 2001)
    and Indian Summer (Gymboree 2003).

I do really love J & J, and I have found their clothing to be of high quality, however, I also find it in general to be less practical than Gymboree. I think it's much more for dress up, kwim?

A lot of their pieces are poplin and not so soft, plus they wrinkle, and I hate ironing. They also have a lot of white (as does gymboree) backgrounds. I loved some of the cherry items from cherry stand, but they are SO White, I worry they would juts look dirty in 5 minutes, and my baby can't even crawl yet!

Don't get me wrong though I still love J & J And I think their boy's lines are fantastic.

I agree that it is sometimes similar. Of course, there are a limited number of children's clothing themes & colors so there are gonna be repeats. Oh, if you look at timing, the J&J flamingo line came out before the Gymbo Golf Pond line...a reverse copy? ;) I also agree about the white backgrounds...beautiful but not as practical. The new J&J floral is strange...I hate it alone but it looks pretty cute in the pic of the outfit they show. Odd. I had to do a double-take to see that it's the same piece!

I have noticed this too. But...I have been able to mix and match J&J clothing with Gymboree so easily because of this. Just another reason to buy more. (as if I need an excuse - lol)

The reason why the two stores often have similar lines is because the same company owns them. Just as Gap Inc. Has Banana Republic (expensive), Gap (mid-range), and Old Navy (cheap), this company has Janie and Jack (expensive) and Gymboree (mid-range). Although I would hardly call Gymboree's usual prices "mid-range" (!), they are cheaper than Janie and Jack.

Since I have two boys, I don't do a TON of shopping in Gymboree. I buy whenever there is something cute at ALL. Janie and Jack is my hands-down favorite, though, and I would rather pay more and have higher quality and cuter themes than pay less and compromise. JMHO.
