This is a great idea. There is actually a comprehensive toy thread floating around but I like the idea of doing a second thread for main gifts because they may not always be toys.

For Eva's first Christmas we got her this:

It is an activity mat and is great because we have wood floors throughout our house. Eva still uses her mat almost daily. When she plays in her room she always gets the mat out first. You can find all different types of styles and they cost around $100.
