No need for a floor but the spot should be fairly flat. We got a log cabin (little tikes) from Craigslist and are happy with it. My DD loves to play in all of the ones we've seen, at other people's houses, her preschool playground, even in stores.

We got a great deal this weekend on a "used" Little Tikes log cabin. ($75) :) Made my day, and my DD LOVES it! :)
