seriously. i have no idea what to get...the party is next weekend! They dont have a lot of space so it can't be anything enormous. and they don't have a yard so play equipment would not be good...any ideas?

My 2 year old loves books. Some of the fun ones like lift-the-flap he still enjoys, or books about his/her favorite subjects. My son loves the Little People Books and his newest favorites to look at by himself (not necessarily to read with me) are the Roger Priddy "Pops" series - there are 4: Dinosaurs, Machines, Ocean and Jungle.
How about some playsilks? They take up almost no room at all. Some of the online seller may have a set in stock that they can ship to you in time.

Art supplies! I just got First Art (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/087...764701?ie=UTF8), a small box of tempera paints and a smock for a party we just went to, and that was a big hit. The mom also mentioned she'd been thinking of branching out from crayons, into things like play-doh, so that could be a good gift. Besides, art supplies never expire, so even if the kid isn't ready for paints or play-doh, they will be soon enough.
Or, how about CDs of kids' songs or a Sesame Street DVD or two?

Favorites in our 2-year old household...
Playsilks
Parents Veterinary Hospital (HUGE around our house)
Crayons and notebooks
play-doh
a tea set (also huge around here)
$30 or less...
BIG ditto to the Parents Vet Hospital. You can pick it up at Target, so it's easy to find. DD received it for her 2nd birthday, loved it then, and still loves to play with it. It's not bad size-wise and you can store all the pieces together.
My daughter is 2 and 3 mos and LOVES the Madeline books. We got her a book that has all the Madeline stories and she loves it. You could get a Madeline doll to go with it.
ETA: Angelina Ballerina book with a tutu from Target!

My daughter is 3 and has loved her Aquadoodle from the day she got it. I love it too because there is no mess whatsoever and it doesn't take up any space at all. It's a HUGE hit around here between my daughter, nephew and niece, who are all members of the 3 and under set.
I've seen this at Toys R us and at Target. Let us know what you decide!
