Default A kitchen set is Ok for a boy, right??

My almost 2 year old DS likes to play with the kitchen set at my SIL's house, so I want to get him one for Christmas. My husband told the older men he works with and they made fun of him, of course. But there's nothing wrong with that, right!? Right now he just likes all the drawers and cabinets and sounds. I hope he ends up playing with it after we spend this much. I found one on Craigslist, but it's still not cheap.

I bought one for my DS when he was 2 years old and HE LOVED it. I guess get one that is in a neutral color, but there's plenty to choose from.

I wonder if the older men that your DH works with also make fun of Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck etc! Betcha they had play kitchens! :)

I think that if your DS enjoys playing with it then it is a great toy for him!

Absolutely! Every house we go to, the kitchen is always the most popular toy with both girls and boys!! My ds has been playing with ours since he could pull himself up at about 9-10 months old. I have had a few moms of boys come to our house, see their little boy enjoy the kitchen so much, and go home and order one for their home.

ETA: YIKES! I wrote "Absolutely Not" I meant to say Absolutely YES!!

Whenever DD's cousins come over (3 very rough and tumble boys) they head straight to her kitchen and play there the entire time. And they are 2, 5, and 8. So I would say that a kitchen is great for anyone!! And DH cooks a lot and I don't think he thinks he's "girly" :)

Thanks everyone! Now I hope I get this one! I'm waiting for the seller to respond, now that I've made my offer.

I hope so! DS loves the one at his MDO and he loves to help me out in the kitchen. So, we bought him a neutral wood one for his bday (tucked away until then) and I have already started to pick up some wooden food here and there. Should be fun!

Here's the phrase to convince your DH that cooking isn't girly:

    George Foreman grill.

I certainly hope so! I'm planning on getting one for my DS for Christmas. But then I think dolls are OK for boys, too. I don't think anything is "not OK" for boys or girls in terms of gender expectations. I think it's a generational thing -- most people our age have a gender-neutral approach to toys. We all grew up with the Free to Be You and Me movies, right? :)

How many famous chef are men? More than half.

We bought my ds a kitchedn when he was 1.5yo.

I hate gender stereotyping toys. They'll do that on their own when they get older, I am now finding with my 4.5yo. But, he still plays with his doll and kitchen. :)
