Default RE: Holiday 2006 Toy Review

Hits for DD: 11 months old

We LOVE this activity cart from One Step Ahead. The only problem is that there is NO WAY all the letters fit at one time on the board (it's magnetic, but there aren't magnets attached, more like there's a magnetic coating on the back of the letters). I like that there are wheels, but it's heavy enough that it doesn't go super fast

I also got this ball drop from One Step Ahead that's neat. DD isn't tall enough to drop the balls in herself, but will stare amazed as I drop them in and they roll down. She also just puts the ball on the top ramp, and lets it go from there.

Little People Farm. I'm really sad about this, cuz I thought it'd be a huge hit. She just doesn't get the relation between the animals/people, and the building (she just takes the figures out and plays with them independent of the building). Maybe in a few months she'll like it more. By the way, we do have the "extension" pieces, with the llama and the turkey, and she loves to play with those. Just not the farm itself :(

No misses yet, but we still haven't finished opening gifts and we're not putting all the toys in the playroom just yet.

So true! I shopped for things throughout the year when they were on sale, what I thought he might like, etc...even though it's a pain, I should have just waited until closer to xmas when I could really tell what he'd LOVE.

New book for her little touch leappad--she doesn't understand why it doesn't sound or look like the other one and just gets frustrated.

DS is 3.5, DD is 22m. Thankfully we had a lot of hits, not too many misses. The key ones that stood out:

    BIG Hits for both:
-PBK Pro Chef Fridge, Stove & Island
-Play Wonder Market Center from Target (though the plastic bins are broken due to poor packaging :( )

    For DS:
    -Hot Wheels Criss-Cross Crash
    -Tonka Fire Truck from Kohls

    For DD:
    -TMX Elmo from Grandma
    -Baby Doll & Stroller

DD also got some little play shoes in her stocking and she's been wearing them a lot. Her birthday is in a couple of months so I know what to get her now!

Give the Little People farm some time - DD wasn't interested in hers until she was close to 1 1/2-2, and then she played with it a lot! She still plays with hers sometimes, and she's 4!!!

DD is 2 and 10 months; her friend H is 3.5

    Big Hits:

My Little Yellow Taxi (particularly with H) -- it's a book that's a taxi and you can pretend to put gas in it, and check the air pressure in the tires and steer and stuff
An eggbeater and (less so) a flour sifter
A magnetic town playset (H's toy, but they both loved it)

    Medium-sized hits:
    socks
a big stuffed elephant from Ikea
    a puppet theater

    So far, no misses.
