Default Plan City for younger than 3 year old?

I am ridding my house of plastic toys!

I really love the Plan City stuff and want to start getting it for my DS, but he's only 18 months old. My 3 1/2 year old DD can also play with it. Are there any choking hazards?

Any advice on Plan City stuff is greatly appreciated!

    TIA!

They are a choking hazard. The vehicles have little tiny wheels and when chewed on, the rubber covering the wheel can detach. The people are very small. Also some of the vehicles are on the fragile side. DS has a few that were destroyed by my nephew.

I do allow my 16 month old DD to play with the toys but under close supervision. You might want to consider starting with the garage and roadway, and maybe a few of the more sturdier cars. The garage is great and can also be used with matchbox cars, thomas trains, etc. We have the standard roadway and the deluxe. If I had to choose one I would go with the deluxe because it has a bridge which DS really likes. The roadway is compatible with wooden railways like Thomas or Brio.

The construction set is fragile. You 3.5 year old would love it but your 18 month old might have problems.

This set is even more fragile. The crane and fork lift broke almost immediately.

The cars are pretty sturdy as long as you watch for the rubber covering the wheels. Keep in mind though that the cars are very tiny and therefore a choking hazard.

The trucks are also pretty sturdy. The bed detaches which could be frustrating for a younger child.

On the logging truck the logs are removable so they could also be a hazard.

We also have the helicopter and that has held up well to the abuse.

I hope that helps a little bit. We have lots and lots of Plan City so please let me know if you have more questions.

Just thought I'd mention that Play Mobile has a "1-2-3" that is wooden (think, little people) and safe for 18mo+

We have some Playmobil 123 and they are all plastic. Where did you see these in wood? I didn't find them on the Playmobil website.

I think the 123 is plastic. Are you sure you are not thinking of Playtown?

OOPS. I was mistaken. Sorry :( I had bought some 1-2-3 for my son's birthday (still in the closet) and had been wanting to buy some playtown. I got them confused.

Just wanted to say thank you to OP for asking and to new mommy25 for your detailed reply ....... I've been wondering this very thing about Plan City age limit and whether the roadway works with Brio type trains. DS will be 20 mos. at Christmas and is getting a train table. I was thinking of adding some PC things but was unsure if I was jumping the gun a bit due to age. Now I can make more wise choices!

    Default Thank you!

I want to thank you, a bit late, for your reply. It was very helpful to me. I did end up purchasing the garage and deluxe roadway system. I LOVE this stuff! I cannot wait for my DS to grow so I can keep adding things. My DD LOVES everything and is excited.

Plan city is great--thanks for making me their newest fan!
