    Default Our Ikea kitchen

I desperately wanted a wooden kitchen for Linnea's birthday but we couldn't afford it. I decided to take inspiration from zen bliss's Ikea kitchen and it turned out so well. All the knobs turn and the oven window has plexiglass in it. Linnea loves it and it was a big hit at her party on Saturday. Here are the pics.

You should be proud, that is adorable. And it is even more special not only because it is wood but because you put time and sweat equity into it. Bravo!

That is even cuter than a store-bought wooden kitchen! If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost for all the materials? It looks so well made and professional.

Thanks for the compliments. It cost us around $65 because we got lucky and found a cabinet on clearance at Ikea. Here is what we got.

    Ivar cabinet $37
    ikea wood glaze ~$3
oven window (picture frame with plexiglass) $3 at Ikea
stainless steel bowl $3 from walmart
    faucet knobs $.80 at michael's
oven knobs (wooden wheels) $.60 each at Michael's
    dowel rod ~$1 at Michaels
miscellaneous hardware ~$9 at home depot
wooden handle for cabinet $3 at home depot
small board for faucet mount and slat between cabinet doors ~$2
scrap wood for oven door handle and faucet was free from home

To make the kitchet we put together the cabinet. We trimmed off the edge of one cabinet door to make the oven and placed the wooden slat between the doors to fill in the gap. To make the oven window we drilled a pilot hole and then cut out the rectangle with a jig saw. Next we used wood glue to glue the picture frame over the hole. We did the same thing to cut out the circle for the sink. We drew a pattern for the oven door handle and cut it out with the jig saw. We did the same thing for the faucet but did it twice. Then we glued the two pieces together so the faucet would be wide enough. Next we cut off a small piece of dowel rod to glue to the end of the faucet. We stained everything and then screwed the knobs and handles in. Let me know if you want more specifics on anything. It really was quite easy. I was pleasantly surprised.
