Default Need small backpack for preschool

The cubbies at DS's school are very small. DS loves backpacks, so I got him a toddler backpack, 12"L and it's way too big for his cubby. I need something smaller - another child has one that fits, it looks like it would fit my wallet and keys and that's it. All I need to put in it is his lovey - has anyone seen a very small backpack?
    Thanks, Nicci

    ET lovey is 8" x 4"

ll bean used to make a really small one, but I think they disconinued them. My 5yo has an llbean, but my 1 1/2 yo has a tough traveler. It says on the site they are 11 x 7 x 4.5. It really is a nice size for little guys. They are made in the US, too. :)

Dickies makes a mini backpack that's 10"H x 9"W x 4"D. It comes in lots of colors. We don't have one, but I remember reading that several mamas here really liked them for PreK.

    Amazon sells them for less:

I think Lillian Vernon! My DS got a personalized corduroy backpack when he was 3 and it was tiny! I don't see it on their site now though... hmmm!

    Would one of these work??

I can't find a link, but I found my son a Life Is Good little backpack that is perfect for a little one...and another plus is its all very soft, so you could "squish" it into the cubby if you needed to.

I saw some really small ones at tj maxx today and some of them are on clearance! They all had kiddie characters on them, they are in big bins with all the other bigger back packs and lunch totes. I also have a very plain black, small backpack that is exactly what you are looking for. I found it in the luggage section at walmart, and it actually fits my kids perfectly for something small like some toys and a snack. I know what you mean about the jr backpacks still being too big, we got the ll bean jr backpacks and they look like turtle shells on my kids, lol. It's just that the ones at tj maxx were much more kid oriented with the way they are decorated. However, if you want something very plain, I found our plain mini-backpack at walmart.

    Was it something like this...http://www.allthingsjeep.com/lif-tbcrhedck.html

I like the idea of it being fabric rather than nylon as easier to squish then.

Thanks for the TJ Maxx suggestion. There's one near DS's preschool, so I'll drop him off, measure the cubby as have to fit a change of clothes in there too, and then off to look at TJ, and if that doesn't work, I'll start on everyone else's suggestions.
Thanks everyone, there's some great ideas here, and I'm sure one will work. I just wish the school had kept the bigger cubbies.
