Default Does anyone have a Britax Companion?

We are looking at infant seats for #2, due in April. I have read a lot about how people like Snugrides, but our experience with #1 makes us want to get a seat that is rated for taller kids (#1 was tall and we were pleased to have a Century infant seat that went to 29 inches). We have (and had) Britax MA and RA and are very happy with these seats. I have not heard enough about the Companions to know whether they follow the good Britax trend. Any feedback would be very welcome!

    Thanks,

    Becky

I have a Britax Companion. We used a Snugride for DS, but I got a new car in between kids and the Snugride didn't fit in my new car. We love our Marathons, so I bought a Companion. Over all I really like the seat. It has SO much more padding than the Snugride. The straps are a slightly narrower version of the Marathons. The base has a rebound bar that fits up against the seat back. I have it installed using the latch connectors and the base does not move at all. The head pad that somes with the seat is awesome. You can inflate or deflate it to fit your child. I will attach a couple of pictures I have of the Companion next to our Snugride. If I can answer any other questions please let me know.

Default just ordered ours this week after looking forever--due in March

Thanks for the pictures Sara. After a long search for the seat, we just bought ours this week. Most places that have them (buy buy baby and online retailers) sell out of them very quickly. I finally found it in stock at http://www.dreamtimebaby.com/. Other places told me that it could be as long as 8 weeks before delivery.

The reason I was so intent on this seat was that my girlfriend had a car accident and ended up in a coma and with neurological damage a few weeks ago. Her baby in the britax came out unscathed, which sold me on the motorcycle foam stuff. Logically, I know that any car seat would have probably preformed the same, but the accident just hit too close to home.

    Good luck in your search.

I don't have a Companion, but I did have another seat rated for taller kids, the Eddie Bauer gridlock pattern infant seat (29 inches/22 pounds.) It's only available at BRU, I think. The matching stroller pretty much stunk, but the seat itself worked fine. My DD outgrew it by weight before height around 5 1/2 months.

Default RE: Does anyone have a Britax Companion? follow-up

I bought the Companion. And will soon return it. Now it may be just this particular Companion, but trying to get the carrier INTO the base is quite difficult. I had to keep lifting, dropping, shifting, pushing...to get it in. Getting it out wasn't easy either, but not as difficult. I really like the safety features of the seat, but if it is such a challenge to get it in the base it is pointless ( and possibly dangerous if it is not all the way in when we think it is),

    Back to the drawing board.

(Also FYI, the shape of the Britax makes it harder to use safely on universal-type strollers. The strap is down so far towards the foot end of the carrier that it could easily slide off.)

It can be used without the base, but it does require you to lift up the edges of the cover to get to the slots (this may be the same as with others, I don't remember that aspect from baby #1).

this is exactly the post i've been looking for! Based on the heights of myself and my husband, i expect to have a tall baby and i have a nightmare of a 2DR Explorer. Therefore i hope to keep my baby in an infant seat for as long as possible as it will be easier to get in and out. I was ecstatic when i read that the Companion holds up to 30". (now i'll probably have a short baby!) Does anyone hve a manual for theirs that has the weight of the carrier? I can't find the information posted anywhere! THANKS!
