    Default making the boards private

Alan and Denise, would you consider making the posts on these boards available to registered users only?

It's kind of freaky that anyone on the internet can read here without registering.

Making them private would get the lurkers to register and that can only be a good thing for you as you will have a better idea about who is reading.

I've often wondered why we don't do this too. For those new and soon-to-be parents, registering would not be a big deal because they really could use the info and it just takes a minute. It might keep the real creeps from lurking, if they're out there. In reality I suppose that there's nothing that would keep a true weirdo from registering, but perhaps it would be an easy deterrent. Perhaps there are some technical issues?

I also agree with this. I was recently contacted by an individual who is banned from membership here and it was very creepy to realize that the person is still reading all of our posts and thus is still privy to a lot of "private" information.

I wouldn't have come to these boards if I had to register. We shouldn't post anything here that isn't for public consumption - it's the internet! I don't think registering would help a whit and would turn off new users.

I would think it would make the boards MORE effective if they made them registered-user only. It is common practice on the interent to register now, even to read a paper usually. It's pretty low barrier (cost) and high benefit (increased security for everyone).

Obviously this is for the Fields only to decide, but if they wished to know our sentiment, they could use a poll if they chose to.(otherwise stated: I don't wish to debate this to death, because it is rightly their decision to make).
