Boppy neck ring

Is one of these little neck rings necessary? Any advice? They are less than $10, but I don't want to buy it if I won't use it.

My baby needed some neck support early on, but I personally did not like the Boppy. I looked at one of these to keep his head from drooping when in his swing and immediately decided against it. It seemed very thick and uncomfortable, and the saleslady at BRU told me her daughter hated it. We ended up just using the little neck support that came with our FP bouncy seat. It is more narrow and designed to have the opening in the front. If I remember correctly, the boppy works with the opening in the back and does not fit well the other way. I have seen similar ones to the FP for sale as separate items.
