Thread: Conception Aid

Just wondered if anyone here had ever tried the Ovacue monitor. I'm thinking about getting it for NFP use, but it is actually for predicting ovulation for achieving pregnancy, not avoiding it. Anyway, it uses your saliva - yes, you read that right- to predict your ovulation. Pretty amazing huh? It sounds like it works pretty well- so if anyone is interested in another non-invasive method that might be more effective than the urine test monitors, check it out. I think their website is ovacue.com. Also, I talked to a salesman there yesterday and he was very helpful.

I did use the Clearplan Easy Fertility Monitor. It's expensive, but it does let you track your cycle better that your basic test sticks. (Or in my case confirm that I'm not ovulating at all).

I use a combination of Ovusoft fertility software (taking temps/charting fluids/etc) and a Clearplan fertility monitor (pee on a stick type...costs about $200 with 30 test sticks, $45 for replacement sticks). I am not pregnant yet, but it hasn't been long enough to really worry yet I guess. So, I like them, and can vouch for the accuracy of the Clearplan since the peak always coincides with the O-day from my charting.

I'm not sure about this new one, but the gals on my infertility board swear by the Clearplan (the $200 one)! Not that they all got pg using it (unfortunately), but they consider it the most accurate home ovulation tester. FWIW!

    I have a question...kind of graphic...

But maybe you know Lori becasue I assume the boards you are on discuss it...but what kind of "discharge" should one expect at ovulation. And is a clear discharge that is kind of thick a pre Ovulation...an ovulation...or a post ovulation sign...

    Anyone know????

It was my understanding (though it's been a while since I've been there) that the clear, egg-white like consistency, discharge is the "fire at will!" stuff. It helps suck the sperm in so to speak. And silly Neve - you KNOW there's no question too graphic for me:).

edited to add: and by that, I meant it's O-time (or as we liked to call it, "Go time"): ovulation.

You're looking for thin, clear, egg white consistentcy CV (cervical mucous). Also, it should be able to be stretched like a web 2-3" between two fingers. Kinda gross, I know. But it pays to know! The more white, thick and rubbery CV is pre and post ovulation. Take a look at my favorite fertility planning site:
    http://www.fertilityfriend.com/
When DH and I were having problems ttc we used this site, printed out my monthly charts, and broght them to the specialist. She was so impressed she said she was going to start recommending it to her other patients. BTW, I started taking weekly OV tests while I used this site, and it was always right on target! Also, the site alerted me to a certain possible fertlity problem, and when I checked with the specialist, it was true as well.
Taking Charge of Your Fertlity by Toni Weschler is a great book as well, and I hear they have their own software you can purchase now too.

Good Luck with "Baby Dancing" as some call it, and HTH

That's what I thought...but an old book we bought second hand today (noticed after we bought it it was from the early 90s though)...acted like that once you've ovulated it is too late...that can't be true is it??? So in other words if I had this clear stuff (yesterday and the day before) and "did it" :):):) yesterday was it too late????

Granted I joke...you can only get pregnant for a precious 'special" few seconds a month unless you're single and trying to avoid it :)...

So be assured I know if I were single, avoiding it, and not insured I could probably get pregnant goo or no goo at anytime of the month :)...

But now that I want to get pregnant....is it more ideal to have the little guys swimming around before the discharge is present or when it is present...

Be assured took sex ed but never remember studying the specifics of goo and discharge :)...

    Thanks gals!!!

And ps, Neve, if you're trying to give Tristan a sister (for your own Ainsleigh;)), it's best to have "the team" already in place a couple days before ovulating (since the girl swimmers last long and can generally swim farther). From charting and keeping track of EVERYTHING, I knew Ainsleigh would be a girl from the moment I saw my temp rise signaling implantation.

And best of luck to you and Steve!
