Corn on the Cob: is there a 'correct' way to eat it?

Loacl corn is in season here, so we had some this weekend. (Delicious, by the way!) I noticed that DH and I ate our ears of corn differently: one of us ate it in rows across the long way, and the other ate it in rows around the cob. We each thought the others' way was weird :-). So, I'm curious, how do you eat corn on the cob? And does Miss Manners have a stance on this?

I've never seen anyone eat it in rows around the cob (I'm assuming you mean start at the big end, eat everything close to that end, then move over & repeat?). Everyone I know (and I grew up in a town that hosts an annual Corn Festival!) eats it in rows across the long way.

I learned something new today-- there's more than one way to eat corn on the cob :)

Our corn is in season right now too(Maine), YUMMY!! Actually, I eat it in rows around the cob. I'm not sure why. I can't imagine that Miss Manners should have a say in this. It's CORN!! :P I say "eat it which ever way makes you happy!"

I think it is kind of like the way you put the toilet paper in the holder-each is passionate about their way of doing things. We eat corn like it is a typewriter-(but then so many of you are too young to know how a typewriter works...LOL) down the row and then spin a bit. I have also seen random eaters-they go willy nilly all over the ear until it is all gone. Very inefficient.
Oh and by the way-toilet paper should fee over the roll not under-of this I am certain!!!

I don't know what is "correct" but our family has always said that we were correct in eating it in long rows. So we eat left to right and when you get to the end of that row you go back to the left and work your way over to the right again. Now I will say DH eats it the other way.

I eat mine in circles around the cob, DH follows Miss M's advice. ;)

Okay, I must be weird, because I just eat the part that's facing me. I don't go back-and-forth or around.

I eat corn across the cob. Though my dad eats it the same way, he cleans the cob completely off, mine looks like a raggedy mess when I am done.

Interesting trivia. :) We just had corn last night and I ate it along horizontal rows. DH and my neighbors do it that way as well. I never realized there was another way to eat corn. :)

To the OP:
Do you actually mean one row at a time? I thought they only did that on cartoons.

I switch between across & around & random, depending on my mood. :)
