I would have never thought of it until you brought it up. Now it seems like a no-brainer. But wow, who does that?!? I want to try that new sledding hill near Soldier Field, that turns up at the end of the slope so the kids don't go flying. Sounds really cool!

We haven't really sledded yet, except for about three minutes of being pulled around last winter, but I think we may try to do this. I never even thought about it until I noticed the little boy sledding in one of DS's Elmo videos was wearing a helmet. I guess we'll just use his bike helmet, when the time comes.

If DH takes them, no. :( If I take them (which is RARE), then yes. Unfortunately, DD is is dire need of a new one. Her head is bigger than her brother's!

We found one at Target, but I bet most bike shops would carry them. I seem to recall folks here talking about toddler helmets made by Bell a while back.

We got them at a bike shop. I've seen them at Target and TRU, but the advantage of a bike shop is that the guy really worked with us for a good fit. I felt much more confident that they were the size we needed.

But, we might be hitting TRU for the new one. I've got a credit there. :)

Default Bike helmet or hockey helmet?

I have both for DS, but I don't know which is the better choice. I know the main difference is that hockey helmets are meant to be kicked around, hit, etc. and not need to be replaced, whereas bike helmets are like carseats - one accident and you are pretty much done. I imagine sledding is not a "contact" sport like hockey, but do the helmets get abused when they are on the hill? Would it render a bike helmet unusable? Does a bike helmet offer more protection? Just thinking out loud, I guess.

    Thanks,

Since we rarely have enough snow to sled on, I don't have a specific snow helmet. I would never have thought about it until a few years ago when one of the neighbor boys took a header into a utility pole. He was ultimately o.k., but it was a scary time.

I have read that you need a helmet approved for downhill sports. If we do get snow this winter, we will go with the tryke helmet, but if I lived in a snowier region, I would invest in a "real" downhill helmet.
