Default Alternatives to foam mattress pad?

I need to replace DD's foam mattress pad that she loved (made her bed SO comfy). But after a recent vomitt occurence, we need to replace it. I bought one todat at Target but the strong odor once I took it out made me question the toxicity of polyurethane foam. After a few google searches, I definitely want something less toxic. Any suggestions?

The pad I am talking about sits on top of the mattress and is sometimes called egg crate foam (?). It was about $20.

    TIA~

Default RE: Alternatives to foam mattress pad?

The only alternative to foam that I know would be either a feather bed or a down alternative "feather" bed. They are kind of hard to find in twin size, though. What about getting some thick (extra loft) quilt batting at a fabric store. Maybe get a king- or queen-sized and double it (or even buy several to get the loft you want). That would give you the cushy feeling you want without the polyurethane outgassing.

They have the "space foam" type also, but I don't know if they're really any different/better.
