Default Is Munchkin as good as Stride Rite?

I'm looking at Stride Rite Munchkin shoes and not sure if they are made as well as shoes that just have the Stride Rite name on them. Anyone know?

    Thanks!

IME, they are not as flexible as Stride Rite shoes. But they didn't wear out in the few months before Colin outgrew them. He does spend a lot of time barefoot, though, and only wears his shoes when playing outside or going somewhere (errands, zoo, etc).

I agree with Lori on the flexibility issue. Also, Munchkins tend to be on the heavy side for my kids. FWIW, the SRs that have lights in them are just as heavy, clunky and non flexible as the Munchkins. All SRs are not created equal! :P HTH!

Ditto. Also, if you go someplace like JCPenney, I've noticed their Stride Rites seem to be an older style which was not as flexible (okay, this was a while ago when buying Ds' first pair). The cost was retail, though!

For flexibility, you should be able to hold the shoe in one hand, then using your forefinger at one end (heel or toe) and the thumb at the other, somewhat easily (or easily it a really great shoe) bend it.

    Thanks for your replies!

I just bought a pair of Munchkins with lights in them on ebay... guess I'll have a little clunker on my hands ;-) This is the first time I've tried athletic shoes on my 20 MO daughter (and they won't fit for a few months) so we'll see if she can handle the clunkiness.

I too agree that some of them are not as flexible as say the stride rite line or for that matter the natural motion system line.

But i have had munchkin shoes for my eldest when she was less than two and they seemed fine, plus i have had stride rites with lights and they have been fine on all fronts too, as with everything you need to judge the shoe individually ;)
