Default Tall and skinny 2 1/2 yr old twins--need advice

My 2 1/2 yr old boys are tall and skinny--almost 40 inches tall and 34 pounds. They're almost too tall for their convertible seats, and I'm really confused about what to purchase. I'm not comfortable taking them out of the 5-pt. harnesses yet, so I'm looking for a harnness/booster combo seat that can accomodate their height until they are at an age that is appropriate for the booster--and I'd like a booster seat with an open-loop design. However, I can't find anything that will work. (I believe that all Costco seats--Costco, Safety 1st, and Eddie Bauer--have 40 inch height requirements on their harnesses, so they won't work.)

Should I just go ahead and get a safe harness seat now and worry about the booster seat later? Or, are the other types of booster seats safe enough?

Advice????? Please????? My head is spinning after reading all the options and I need help.

    Thanks,

    Kristine

It is a great idea to stick with a 5-point harness until at least 40 pounds.

The Cosco Summit is a nice combination model with an open loop shoulder belt adjuster, but it may not accomodate tall kids to 40 pounds in the harness.

While the open loop adjusters are very nice, models without them can still be used safely with proper use and supervision. Also see Question #29 in this FAQ:
