Default Water Table for 1 year old?

I know the age recommendation is 2 years, but do you think a 1` year old could play with a water table? No sand yet...
I was looking at the little tikes or Hedstrom.

Absolutely!! (Supervised of course.) The mess might be bigger but what fun. You could other stuff in as well: popcorn, rice, beans, balls, blocks. My DD has no desire to put anything in her mouth so we have used the water table in many different ways.

Which Little Tikes table are you looking it? I have one by LT that I would NOT recommend.

That's the one I have. Our problem is that the table was left outside and became full of water. The INSIDE of the table has water in it, not water where there's supposed to be, if you know what I mean. I called LT and they basically admitted to me that the table had a design flaw, but oh well, too bad for me!

If you're going to use it inside, then it may be OK, but I wouldn't plan to be able to leave it outside.

There is one made by Berchet that a lot of people have and like.

Absolutely! DS has such a blast with those. My mom has the Berchet one at her house. It's really nice. It comes with great toys and is divided in half diagonally. It's deep enough for fun splashing. It is messy. Expect a change of clothes afterward. We have the LT table you were considering. I do not like it as well (although in all fairness, we haven't played with it as much as the Berchet one). However, the water side is not particularly deep and has channels running through it to guide boats that are included. A 1-year old is not really ready for this aspect. So, I put water in the sand side. But, there is not a drain on that side, so it's a bit of a pain. On the positive side, once we are ready for sand, the LT table has much more room for sand play. There is really not room in the Berchet table to move decent-sized trucks or large sand molds. We don't have our LT table outside, so I can't comment about Beth's concern. I am not familiar with the Hedstrom sand& water table.

Here is the table we have. I like it because you can just take out the tub and wash and refill. Really easy.

DS is getting this one for his birthday:

We opted for this after reading all the complaints about the little tikes one. I figure this summer we could use it without the legs and next summer ad the legs. We plan on filling both sides with water this year.

Just another one to consider. The cheapest price I found was ordering directly from step2.

I'm considering one of these tables also. Are you happy with this one? Thanks :)

Yes! We really like the Step 2 sand and water table. We use almost every day. Now that DS is walking well we did put the legs on. We filled it with water on both sides. It's held up well. The lids is light and stays on firmly. It also comes with an umbrella. I can't wait until next year when we will fill it with sand!
