Default ISO: plastic animals and insects

I am looking for plastic animals and insects for Sarah's birthday. I have a few from Target, but they are really small. I am looking for things that are a few inches tall (or long as appropriate, LOL) and are sturdy. Not collector quality, but sturdy.

I am especially in search of "wild" animals and butterflies and bugs.

    Thanks!

I know you know about Discount School Supply, no luck there? Or you could try a teacher supply store.

    Beth,

If you can't find any anywhere, let me know. We have a store that is local here and I can go pick some up for you.

We were at the local zoo this morning, and the zoo shop had sturdy little animal figures. I would check out the local zoo, children's museum, natural history or science museum shops to see what they have.

    Beth,

I saw some sets of safari animals (lions, elephants, etc.) at Marshall's today. They were about 3-4" tall. A set of 6 was $7.99. I've also seen all kinds of animals (not sure about bugs) in a display case at A.C. Moore. Tom plays with them every time we go there!

    Good luck!

Of course there's always the LP Noah's Ark and extra animals. For insects, Discovery Toys has a Busy Bugs Learning Set http://www.discoverytoysinc.com/toys2b.htm However, I'm not sure if they'll be big enough for you or not. They are a couple of inches long.

Here's a larger wild animal set for $16 - they are made for preschools so the quality is good: http://tinyurl.com/2556t

We have this store here locally and I got DD the water animal set and she loves to play with them in her sand and water table.

We got Colin a tub o' wild animals for Christmas from Toys R Us. There were probably 10 animals in it (all too large to swallow, a bonus) for about $6. They had it back in their animal planet/educational area, and still had them last time I checked. There were other sets, too, not sure about bugs though.

When I was at a party store buying paper goods for Elijah's birthday, I noticed that they had tons of plastic animals, dinos, and bugs in the favors aisle--big packages for not too much money. Definitely not collector quality, but they looked sturdy enough. That might be a good place to look.

Yes, they are soap. Maybe they could do double duty? Or they'd melt if your party is outdoors. :(
ETA- We're planning Brig's party as a "Barnyard Celebrebration" so some of my animal searches overlap with yours.
