Default Can we start a favorite books thread?

My ds will be two soon and I'd like to make a list of book titles to give to grandmas, aunties, etc, so they can pick some out for his birthday and Christmas.

    Share your favorites please!

DD is 3 1/2 now, but loves Curious George, Richard Scarry, Madeline, Olivia, Dr. Seuss, and Little Critters. She's also just started reading Bob books. Please note that most of these books are not board books and can be ripped easily. While DD was 2, every few months she'd surprise me by ripping up another one of her books, just when I had thought she'd finally outgrown that stage. Now she's fine. Interesting enough, her little sis who is only a year old never rips books at all!

This is our basic favourite list from age 2 on. Lots of the same as PP as well.

We're pretty biased about trucks, diggers and tools. Anything else just sits on the shelf. We seem to like series that are all similar (authors Byron Barton, Tony Mitton and Anne Rockwell as examples - they all have the same type of books; one on trucks, one planes, one trains, etc.)

My Truck is Stuck - Kevin Lewis

Lot at the end of my block - Kevin Lewis

Amazing Machines series - Tony Mitton (Tremendous Tractors, Flashing Fire Engines and Tough Trucks are our favourites.)

B is for bulldozer - June Sobel

    Digger Man - Andrea Zimmerman

Good Morning Digger - Anne Rockwell

    Emergency - Margaret Mayo

Beaver the Carpenter - Lars Klinting

Anne Rockwell's transportation series (Fire trucks, Trains, Planes, Trucks, etc.)

The Diggers - Margaret Wise Brown (weird/stupid story but nephew *loves* it to pieces!)

I Love Trucks - Philemon Sturges (yet another series as well, "I love_____" [Trains - School - Bugs - Planes])

    Any of these series:
    Curious George
    Franklin

    Any of these authors:

Richard Scarry (busy town, cars and trucks and things that go and what do people do all day are favourites.)

Byron Barton (any of the single themed books -airport, trains, trucks, planes, etc.- as well as his stories -building a house, Buzz buzz buzz, etc-)

At three my nephew will still read any "DK my first _____ board book" while in the car, stroller or restaurant (my younger nephew is now into these with a passion as well.) Hope this helps you out.

    Curious George books here too.
    Duck on a Bike
    How Do Dinasours get well?
    The Big Red Barn
    Yum, Yum Dim Sum
    The Very Hungry Catepillar
    Still likes Sandra Boyton Books
    Go Dog. Go.
Hands are not for hitting (I don't like this one much as it is a bit, well, preachy for my tastes, but DS really likes it. . . .)

My DS is almost three and these are his current favorites:

Curious George (especially the pancake one)
A Bad Case of Stripes (altho this is a long one)
    Dinos to Go (Sandra Boynton)
Put Me in the Zoo (a personal favorite)
A Monster (and Another Monster) at the End of this Book
Sheep in a Jeep (another personal favorite)
    Mouse Paint/Mouse Count
Any Miss Spider, Thomas the Train or Wiggles Book
    The Very Busy Spider
    Close Your Eyes
Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You
    Wocket in my Pocket
    Pajama Time
    Snappy Little . . . (anything) (caution - fragile)
    Head to Toe

DS has been very into rhyming books for the past 6 months. I also noticed that his attention span increased in the past 2 months.

Good luck - we have many books that have gone in and out of favor over the past 3 years. DS was a book lover from the time he was very little. My other DS (10 months) has not interest in books or TV!

My DS LOVED the David Shannon books at that age. In fact he still loves them, and now my DD loves them too. She is 20 months old and will always bring me the Duck on a Bike book.

    David goes to school
    David gets in trouble
    No! David
    Duck on a Bike

There's another book she loves from a different author. The authors name escapes me at the moment, the title of the book is Under The Bed.
It was perfect when my DS started being afraid of the dark and afraid of "monsters in his room" My DD loves it too.
