CaliforniaGirl - that list looks awesome! Thanks.

We have liked Ladybug Girl - haven't read the sequel yet.

Flower Garden by Eve Bunting is good - it's not really strong in the sense of overcoming an obstacle - but I like that the girl is resourceful with her father and the mom comes home from work at the end. My daughter loves it so much that I thought I was going to get a flower box for my birthday.

More votes for Paperbag Princess, The Princess Knight, Fancy Nancy series and LadyBug Girl series.

There is also Princess Pigsty (she doesn't want to be a princes and goes to work around the castle), Pirate Girl (gets captured by Pirates and keeps warning them they'll be sorry - turns out she knows the most feared pirate around). The Frances series is pretty good too, especially Best Friends for Frances (Frances has a great time playing without the boys when they won't let her play with them).
