I just have to post some of the pics we took at DS's 5 yo bday party. He decided on pirate theme sometime in Nov/Dec, and we had a lot of fun planning this one. Of course the first thing knew I HAD to do was make a treasure chest cake I'd seen in my Taste of Home mag years before:

I had my DH draw a few things: a treasure map, an underwater treasure chest for crafting (the kids glued fish & sequins on), and a "pin the sword on the pirate".

I decided we needed to turn out Rainbow playset into a "Pirate Ship", so I used an old sheet and some PVC to make a sail. Of course, we needed a pirate flag on top, too (artwork again supplied by DH).

I raided my old fabric supply, and one piece from the remnant bin at JoAnn along with purchased eye patches for dress-up for the kids. DS had a eyeliner mustache, too. Of course, we raided our Ren Faire costumes for a couple more pieces for us.

Things I don't have pictures of are the craft stick treasure chest craft (which took a lot of prep for 5 yo kids) and the 2 sandbox turtles up by the playset (borrowed from the school) with sand and treasure (bead necklaces, gold coins and these cool plastic gems I found online) in them. The treasure hunt was REALLY cool. I gave each kid a ziploc bag with their name on it, stationed 4 kids around each turtle and let them go at it. Would you believe they found every single piece of treasure in each sandbox? Amazing!

This was all put on the weekend after the huge storm out here and the weather was BEAUTIFUL! It was even hot in my backyard! Wow! What a great party.
